Havana”s Historic District, Ideal Platform for Biennial

The Office of the Historian of Havana (OHCH), located in the capital”s historic district, is reaffirmed today as a perfect area for the activities of the current 12th Biennial of Havana. That space, located in the heart of Old Havana, has offered almost completely its facilities and galleries and even private homes that since May 22 are used as a special stage for the great event of visual arts. More than one dozen of collateral exhibitions are placed in the historic district, which, according to expert Liset Valderrama, demonstrate the adaptation and versatility of the institution’s spaces for those purposes.

The oldest Chinese cemetery in the Americas

Cuban Film to Open Cinema Festival in Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo, Jul 16 (Prensa Latina) Cuban film Habanastation will open the 7th International Children´s Cinema Festival in the Dominican Republic, to be held from July 18 to 25. On December 20 I was invited to attend the regular meeting of the Education, Culture, Science and Technology Commission of the National Assembly of the People’s Power, held at the International Conference Center, where Heriberto Feraudy, who chairs the José Antonio Aponte Commission against Racial Discrimination of the Union of Cuban Artists and Writers (UNEAC) talked about the race problem in Cuba. La Colmenita’s first performance in Washington DC was extraordinary. The audience began arriving at the Kay Chapel at American University at 5:30 p.m. even though the performance was not to begin until 7. People of all ages arrived along with plenty of children. The chapel filled up. Two young parents with their small children came from New Jersey, driving four hours to attend the event because they’d been unable to see the troupe when it was in New York.
