Two Deaths and Property Damage from Heavy Rains in Havana


Two casualties and material damage yet to quantify is the balance of heavy rains in the capital, reports Granma newspaper. Sources from the Civil Defense informed that the dead are a lady of 81 years, who died by drowning due to a flood, and a young man of 24 years, died electrocuted because of falling power lines. Specialists Forecast Center of the Institute of Meteorology reported that a line of severe thunderstorms formed quickly in the Straits of Florida ahead of a cold front, advanced on the capital from the early hours of Wednesday afternoon.

Cuban First Vice President Welcomes ECLAC Executive Secretary


Cuban First Vice President Miguel Diaz-Canel, welcomed here today the Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Alicia Barcena. Exemptions to Demand Against Cuban Company by Chilean Corporation


The food corporatión CORALSA (Corporacion Alimentaria SA) of Cuba was released from the lawsuit filed by the Chilean company Ingelco. Cuba Holds Second Round of Partial Elections


A total of 1,165 constituencies in 149 Cuban municipalities today are holding the second round of partial elections to elect delegates to the Municipal Assemblies of People’s Power (councilors). According to the National Electoral Commission (CEN-Spanish acronym), for this occasion 3,351 polling stations have ben set and over a million 250 thousand voters have been summoned to vote from seven o’clock until six in the afternoon.

Cuba Opens US Basketball Camp


The National Basketball Association (NBA) opened in this capital a sports Camp aimed at supporting the development of basketball in Cuba. Also protected by FIBA America and the local Federation, the event -being part of the Basketball without Border program- will end on Sunday, April 26, and provides a program of clinics and lectures for children, young basketball players and referees.
