The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

Cuba and the European Union reaffirm willingness to expand interparliamentary ties

Esteban Lazo Hernández, president of the National Assembly of People’s Power, and the deputy to the European Parliament, Massimiliano Smeriglio, ratified today in Havana the will to expand and strengthen inter-parliamentary relations. As reported by the Parliament on Twitter, the head of the Assembly exchanged with the MEP at the headquarters of the National Capitol as part of the work agenda of the Italian politician and writer. The MEP, a member of the Democratic Party in Italy, toured rooms of interest in the Capitol along with the delegation that accompanies him.

Chinese Foreign Minister demands that the US stop hindering bilateral ties

China today demanded that the United States stop the harassment and not raise more barriers to bilateral ties, after stressing that their stable development benefits the common interests and those of the international community. According to an official statement, Foreign Minister Wang Yi made these remarks during a telephone conversation with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. The foreign minister criticized Washington for clinging to ideological prejudices and trying to curb Chinese investment with its new controls on the export and trade of machinery.

Raúl Castro receives the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia in Havana

Army General Raúl Castro Ruz received this Saturday the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, who is on an official visit to Cuba. In the fraternal exchange, both leaders referred to the historic relationship that both countries have maintained since 1960, the year in which diplomatic ties were established. The Cambodian Premier recalled his visit to Cuba in 1999, when he received the José Martí Order from the hands of the Historical Leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz.

Cuban President meets with businessmen and personalities from Italy

With the aim of continuing to strengthen relations between Cuba and Italy, Miguel Díaz-Canel, President of the Republic, met this Wednesday with several businessmen and personalities from that European country. Through the Twitter account of the Presidency, it was indicated that the president thanked the Italian friends for the meeting and listened to proposals and concerns regarding foreign investment.

First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba begins working visit to Vietnam

The First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba, Gerardo Peñalver Portal, arrived in Hanoi this Sunday to co-chair the seventh round of political consultations between foreign ministries. Gerardo Peñalver Portal was received at the Nội Bài international airport by Le Cộng Tien, deputy director general for the Americas of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Cuban ambassador Orlando Hernández Guillén. The First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba makes his first tour of the Indochina region.

Second meeting of Cuba-U.S. Bilateral Commission scheduled

The Cuban and U.S. delegations to this meeting will be led by the Ministry of Foreign Relations’ general director for the U.S. Josefina Vidal Ferreiro, and by the State Department’s Deputy Assistant Secretary for South America and Cuba Edward Alex Lee, respectively. To be reviewed are the agenda of topics established during the first meeting, held September 11, 2015, in Havana; results achieved over the intervening months; and the complex issues between the two countries which are pending solution, including the lifting of the blockade.
