The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

Two heroes deeply rooted in Cuban character

Born on the same date, although 83 years apart, Antonio Maceo and Ernesto Che Guevara eloquently represent fundamental characteristics of Cubans’ quest to reach our dreams. On the 175th anniversary of the Bronze Titan’s birth, and the 92nd of the heroic guerilla’s, the President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, recalled on his Twitter account: “Maceo and Che are always present in our daily struggle, in our conquests, in our aspirations as a nation, in our commitment to solidarity, in our patriotism.”

Mariana Grajales: Mother of the homeland

This July 12 marks 204 years since the birth of a quintessential Cuban woman, Mariana Grajales Coello, Mother of all Cubans. She is recognized not only as the mother of heroes like Liberation Army Lieutentant General Antonio Maceo y Grajales, but also for establishing an exceptional example of human conduct under adverse conditions in her own home, educating all her children to take the road to freedom for Cuba under the yoke of Spanish colonialism.

The feats of a Titan

Antonio Maceo Grajales (1845-1896), renowned leader and Major General of the Liberation Army, was a staunch fighter for Cuba’s independence and is widely considered to be a master military strategist. He is believed to have been involved in over 800 battles, the majority during the independence struggles of 1868, and was wounded 26 times.

Tribute to Maceo and Fidel

“This year our pilgrimage to Cacahual, representing the Cuban people, has a special significance since, bearing a deep sadness, we have come to the site where the remains of Antonio Maceo rest, to say that his most avid student, Fidel Castro, is no longer among us physically,” said Jorge Cuevas Ramos, member of the Party Central Committee Secretariat, during the military ceremony commemorating the 120th anniversary of the death in battle of Lieutenant General of the Liberation Army Antonio Maceo, and his assistant Captain Panchito Gómez Toro.
