The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

The Cuban Revolution is proud of its campesinos

“Sixty-one years after the first massive land distribution in the Pinar del Rio town of Las Martinas, to put an end to the plantation system, the Cuban Revolution is proud of its small farmers…You have done your part and will continue to do so with the same dignity as always and with full awareness of the moment the Revolution is experiencing.” These were among the words of José Ramón Machado Ventura, second secretary of the Party Central Committee, during provincial annual review assemblies of the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP).

No matter the challenge, we continue to reach for the stars

A year has gone by, and if it were necessary to define it in a single word there is none more accurate than “transcendental.” Twelve months of unceasing work since more than eight million Cubans supported what has been, since February 24, the supreme law of Cuban society, based on the dream José Martí bequeathed to us of a Republic of exceptional humanism. The approval of a more advanced constitutional text was not only proof of the continuity that has marked the course of our revolutionary process, but at the same time, the starting point for another stage of intense, challenging work.

From Monroe to Trump

More than 200 years have passed since James Monroe became the fifth president of the United States. Unlike Donald Trump, he had been a soldier, lawyer, senator, governor and even Secretary of State. Trump, the country’s 45th President, a multimillionaire inexperienced in politics, has done nothing more than repeat what was said and done by the inventor of the “America for Americans” doctrine. What is common in what happened in 1823 and what is happening today is that Monroe’s philosophy is being dusted off by Trump

Céspedes inspires today’s just causes

“What makes Céspedes great is not only the firm, decisive decision he made to take up arms, but the act that accompanied that decision, which was to grant freedom to his slaves (…) his willingness to abolish slavery in our country. With this phrase from Comandante en jefe Fidel Castro Ruz, President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez tweeted his tribute to the father of the homeland, on the 146th anniversary of his death in battle, yesterday February 27.

Cuba’s President and Prime Minister led a meeting of the Council of Ministers at the end of February, to analyze the economy’s performance in the first month of the year, and other issues. The President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, emphasized the premises that must guide the management of this year’s Economic Plan: “rigor, discipline and control,” adding, “We cannot admit any failure to meet projections with the excuse of fuel shortage.”

Cuba maintains valuable relations with its citizens living abroad, despite U.S. government hostility

The celebration in Havana of the Fourth Conference on Nation and Emigration, April 8-10, is another expression of the unequivocal intention of the Cuban government to continue deepening relations with the émigré community, an important pillar in defense of the Homeland, our culture, history and values. This meeting will bring together Cubans who respect and love their country, defend it freely and independently, and actively oppose the blockade imposed by the United States government.

Martí with me, with us

With pleasure I have read dozens of messages posted on the Presidency’s website, regarding the January call to pay just tribute to the most universal of Cubans. Some of these are so beautiful they make you want to reproduce them as graffiti. Although only names or pseudonyms are written, no professions or ages, it is very comforting to note that, in addition to numerous well-known followers of Martí, the majority are educators and young people interested in making their feelings about Martí public.

Cuba denounces U.S. unilateralism as a threat to human rights around the world

“Unfortunately, the unilateralism of the United States undermines the promotion and protection of human rights of everyone on the planet,” stated Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla on Tuesday in Geneva. Speaking during the High Level Segment of the 43rd ordinary session of the Human Rights Council, he added that neoliberal policies imposed by the northern nation violate economic, social and cultural rights and prevent other nations from exercising their right to development.

The socialist state enterprise is key to the country’s prosperity

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez has described the Ceballos Agroindustrial Combine in Ciego de Avila as an exemplary socialist state enterprise, praising it on several occasions for developing a complete production cycle from the fields to the industrial facility. But the company faces a very demanding challenge: creating productive links with other components of the Cuban economy.
