The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

The moment I learned of the Batista regime’s fall
Fidel had predicted that the Moncada Garrison would surrender its forces during the first days of January, 1959. I had been inside the fort in 1953, as a prisoner, along with other compañeros who attacked the Moncada. Fidel had been taken directly to the Santiago de Cuba Vivac. The story goes like this. I was at the Soledad sugar mill, now called the El Salvador, when I heard about the fall of Batista regime. At the time I was organizing the attack on the city of Guantánamo, on orders from Fidel.

The year we learned to look each other in the eye
2020 was literally and metaphorically the year we learned to look into each other’s eyes. January began with the Matanzas triumph in the National Baseball Series . Nobody knew it, but it would be missing and missing time so that we can meet again, side by side and jumping with euphoria. And no one knew that the same do not yell at a stadium a Home Run to slam would give the world a lesson in humanism and solidarity.

The word we all speak today with hope is “vaccine.” We have had an absolutely extraordinary 2020’s year. An unexpected and unprecedented pandemic has changed everything, in almost every way for the worse, although there also have been some good consequences. The political defeat of some enemies of our country who did not even know how to lead their powerful country in these extraordinary conditions may have been influenced by this factor, and that is a good consequence.

For a World of Rights
On December 10, 1948, once the World War II ended, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was signed. Therefore, the UN chose that day to celebrate human rights every year. If we make a moderately responsible research on the reality after that date, it immediately comes to light, that the United States has appropriated those two words –right and human– and turned them into political instruments to impose sanctionsandcarry out military aggressions, a practice it has maintained until the present day.

Monetary Ordering, a measure with positive sign

Cuban state budget prioritizes social programs
The monetary re-ordering process underway necessarily implies changes for Cuba’s 2021 state budget. Given the effort to ensure the most appropriate use of resources, the plan includes eliminating excessive subsidies, without foregoing its predominately social character, with human beings at the center of the country’s life. Raúl, Díaz-Canel and Marrero visit Cuba’s strategic enclave ofthe Special Development Zone of Mariel
The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, the President of the Republic of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel and the Prime Minister Manuel Marrero visited the Special Development Zone of Mariel, a strategic enclave for Cuba, located north of the province of Artemisa, 45 kilometers away from Havana, on the morning of Saturday December 12. Touring the facilities for the first time in a long time, Raúl said he has been closely following the progress of the zone and expressed that “it grows by the day” and stressed the strategic importance of the Zone.
