The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

Speech by Commander-In-Chief Fidel Castro on his arrival in Havana on 8 January 1959
The people are listening, the revolutionary fighters are listening, and the regular troops – whose fate is in our hands – are listening also. I believe this to be a turning point in our history: the tyranny has been overthrown. The rejoicing is immense. But there is still much to be done. We mustn’t fool ourselves into believing that the future will be easy; everything may be more difficult in the future.

Address by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz at Céspedes Park in Santiago de Cuba, on the 1st of January of 1959
It was being said that today at 2 o’clock in the afternoon we were being expected in the capital of the Republic and I was the first person to be amazed (SHOUTING AND APPLAUSE) because I was one of the first people to have been surprised by that traitorous and confabulated coup this morning in the capital of the Republic.

From where the palms grow
In this landscape, where slender palms grow, alongside intense colors that were never for sale, a human canvas was painted marked by the hopes of those who took up arms and worked hard: men-children with unkempt beards and hair falling onto their rebellious shoulders, young women made powerful by their strong souls and fierce pride.

Thanks to the Revolution new facilities open in the Isle of Youth
This island is known among the archipelago’s many as the site of the infamous Presidio prison, but it is much more. It has always been more, but the Revolution made it visible. This potential is evident today in various projects currently underway, as Vice President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez noted during a visit here, which included a stop at the children’s theater La Toronjita Dorada, where he emphasized the quality of restoration work done and the young actors’ enthusiasm.
