The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

Nobody like the workers to drive the country forward
The Cuban Workers’ Federation (CTC) provincial conferences will begin in July, starting with the provinces of Matanzas and Cienfuegos, and will extend through October, announced Ulises Guilarte de Nacimiento, member of the Party Central Committee Political Bureau and CTC secretary general.

Cuba’s Council of Ministers, meeting at the beginning of last week in the Palace of the Revolution, and headed by President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, analyzed national economic performance in the first half of the year; the 2017 State Budget settlement and the control measures applied in its implementation; as well as exports, external loans for investments and foreign investment.

Working toward more Cuban products in the tourism sector
The recently concluded International Tourism Fair (FITCuba 2018) marked record participation (3,000 participants from 62 nations). Through May 18, Cuba had received two million international visitors this year. The figures are promising, but they are no accident. Making Cuba an attractive, safe, and comfortable destination for its visitors, and ensuring a profitable tourism sector that in turn contributes to the development of the country, entails joint efforts.

Cuba’s exemplary biotechnology research
The state enterprise group BioCubaFarma has 393 research projects underway, of which 102 involve biotechnology, and of these a large portion are focused on oncology, as is also reflected in international trends. Of the 101 projects, 76 are innovations with Cuban patents, and 26% of these are the first of their kind, that is their active ingredients are not present in any other medication.

Russian ambassador emphasizes strong ties between his country and Cuba
The excellent state of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Russia were publicly emphasized in Havana by Mikhail Kamynin, the Euro-Asian country’s ambassador here, who will end his mission shortly. He spoke with Granma International at the Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP) during the celebration of his country’s national day, June 12, when concerts, dance performances, and conferences on Russian culture, language, and scientific contributions are held around the world.
