The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

International Transport Fair begins in Havana
Cuban and foreign representatives of the sector participate in the International Transport and Logistics Fair, sponsored by the Ministry of Transport (Mitrans) from today until October 6, in this capital. The event, which takes place at the Pabexpo fairgrounds, brings together for the first time the new Cuban economic actors and guests from more than 10 countries. According to its organizers, another fundamental moment of the Fair will be the Business Round, a space in which the naval, railway and automotive industries will present their main advances.

New Jardines del Rey hotel for the winter season
With the entry into operation of the Grand Aston Cayo Paredón hotel, the Jardines del Rey destination increased its lodging capacity for the winter season that will begin next November. The 635-room resort, from the Indonesian-based Archipelago International tourist group, is the company’s first in the northern keys of Ciego de Ávila, and will be distinguished by a Nikkei cuisine space, which mixes Japanese and Peruvian flavors.

President of Colombia reiterates that it is unfair to include Cuba in the list of State sponsors of terrorism
The President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, reiterated this Monday, at a press conference with the Secretary of State of the United States, Antony Blinken, that the inclusion of Cuba in the United States list of countries that sponsor terrorism is unfair. “Personally, in this meeting that just took place, I said that what had happened with Cuba is an injustice,” Petro said in the meeting with the head of US diplomacy, who is visiting Colombia.

Cuba obtains second victory in the U-16 World Chess Olympiad, in Azerbaijan
Another Cuban triumph was enjoyed this Monday, with a score of 3-1 over Bangladesh, during the second round of the World Under-16 Chess Olympiad in Nakhshivan 2022, in Azerbaijan. Successes by Daniel Hidalgo and José Alejandro Hernández on boards one and three, in that order, made the difference after Leduard González’s defeat at the second table. Then came the good performance of Greter Caballero to sentence the match.

Governments of Cuba and the United States exchange information on damage caused by Hurricane Ian
The Cuban Foreign Ministry announced on Twitter that the US and Cuban governments have exchanged information “on the considerable damage and unfortunate losses caused by Hurricane Ian in both countries.” She pointed out that “we also maintain communication with other governments interested in the ravages and needs for recovery in Cuba.” Several governments around the world are interested in helping Cuba with donations of food and construction materials and with specialized technical assistance in cases like this one.

Díaz-Canel exchanges with local authorities and workers on a visit to the pine town of Cocodrilo
The first secretary of the Central Committee of the PCC and president of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, visits the coastal town of Cocodrilo, in the south of the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud, on Monday morning. On Twitter, the president reported that “Today we will be on the Isle of Youth, another of the territories affected by #HurricaneIan. The recovery there is progressing rapidly. Much of its electrical service and communications are restored. We have to work hard to rebuild the houses.”

Religious and activists from 23 nations ask to remove Cuba from the list of State sponsors of terrorism
About 300 faith-based organizations, churches, believers and activists from 23 nations signed a petition asking US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to remove Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism. Among the signatories of the petition are the Nobel Peace Prize winner Adolfo Pérez Esquivel, the Japanese nun Filo Hirota, members of the World Council of Churches, the Communion of Reformed Churches of Cuba, and Chris Ferguson, reverend of the Reformed University and pastor of the United Church of Canada.

Cuba thanks Mexico for sending material for the recovery of the electrical system in the West
Cuban authorities thanked Mexico on Monday for sending 113 tons of resources for the recovery of the electrical system in western Cuba. The Minister of Energy and Mines, Liván Arronte Cruz, during the reception at the José Martí International Airport for the last of the 16 flights, with around 13 tons of post-type insulators, recognized the presence of 17 technicians and specialists in generation in Cuba and the strength of bilateral relations.

National Television Award 2022 awarded to René Navarro Arbelo
The narrator and sports commentator René Navarro Arbelo, who worked for almost five decades on Cuban television, received the 2022 National Television Award. Navarro Arbelo has distinguished himself in the narration of world, Pan American and Central Caribbean volleyball, athletics, basketball and cycling competitions, among others. He baptized the generation of the women’s volleyball team that won almost everything during the nineties as the Spectacular Morenas del Caribe.

Pinar del Río: Six hours that changed everything
We didn’t want to write. We were not there when Ian attacked the province of Pinar del Río with winds of more than 200 kilometers per hour; that land that saw us born and from which we can never let go. We didn’t want to write but it is a journalistic duty to tell stories and bring a pinch of hope to the last person. Last Wednesday, from car to car, from stretch to stretch, we traveled about a hundred and fifty kilometers and reached Pinar del Río. Destruction, pain in people’s faces, fallen trees, houses without roofs, others on the ground.
