Cuba’s National Circus Sorry for Death of Cirque du Soleil’s Artist

circo-del-sol-Yann-arnaudCuba’s National Circus is sorry today due to the death of Cirque du Soleil’s artist Yann Arnaud, occurred this weekend after suffering a fall in a presentation in the US city of Tampa, Florida.

Arnaud, aged 38, and his partner Pawel Walczewski performed a complex aerial routine in which they were balanced on the stage supported by a rope when it collapsed on the stage from an about four-meters high.

He immediately received medical assistance that treated his injuries and was transported to Tampa General Hospital, but he eventually died.

‘After so much work, training and staging, our act of strapping duo will finally be on the show tonight,’ commented the trapeze artist born in France but settled in the United States.

‘The whole family of Cirque du Soleil is shocked and devastated by this tragedy. Yann had been with us for over 15 years and was loved by everyone who had the opportunity to meet him,’ Cirque du Soleil’s CEO Daniel Lamarre said in a statement.

The tragic accident is not the first to overshadow the work of the company, in 2013 one of its members died after falling from 15 meters high, and three years later another of its members died due to an accident unrelated to any show.
