Workers show support for the Revolution on May Day

primero de mayo fotoAccording to Luis Castanedo Smith, provincial secretary general of the Cuban Workers’ Federation (CTC), workers from Havana will converge on the José Martí Plaza de la Revolution en masse to celebrate May Day, and show the world the strength of the Cuban Revolution, adding that participants will also express support for the agreements reached at the 7th Party Congress, the country’s most senior leaders and socialist model.

The march will be led by education sector workers, followed by those from healthcare, construction, hotels and tourism, communications, civil defense and public services with representatives from the Young Communist League ending the march.

Castenedo Smith reported that workers will carry flags and banners demanding an end to the U.S. blockade, the return of the territory illegally occupied by the Guantánamo Naval Base, and in support of the governments and peoples of Venezuela, Brazil, Bolivia and Ecuador, as well as Argentina’s accomplishments now under attack by the Mauricio Macri government.
The CTC secretary general also noted that the march will serve to honor Fidel on his 90th birthday and commemorate the 55th anniversary of the victory of Playa Girón, and national literacy campaign.
