China Hopes U.S., Japan Respect Regional Security

Beijing, Nov 9 (Prensa Latina) China expressed hopes on Friday that Japan and the US will respect regional security, after comments on a review of Japan-U.S. defense alliance guidelines between the two nations to expand cooperation between their forces.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei made the statements on Friday, urging Japan and the United States not to harm the interests of third parties and to respect the security concerns of regional countries.

“Their bilateral alliance was forged under a specific historical situation and should not infringe upon the interests of third parties or exceed the bilateral framework,” said spokesman Hong Lei.

Kyoto News Agency reported that Japan’s senior Vice Defense Minister Akihisa Nagashima and U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter will hold talks to review Japan-U.S. defense alliance during Nagashima’s visit to the U.S., which begins on Nov. 9.
