Cuba advances in implementation of prevention plan

José Martí International Airport with a new look

Havana’s José Martí International Airport Terminal-3 has a new look, since conducting an investment process in 2019 to improve services provided at the country’s principal airport. This effort also addresses the absurd U.S. government decision to eliminate flights to other provinces from that country, in an attempt to not only damage the country’s economy, but also create discontent among visitors by overcrowding services offered in Havana.

Cuban Government updates Plan for prevention and control of Covid-19

Army General Raul Castro Ruz, Party first secretary, led a meeting of the Political Bureau this week to consider new measures to contain the introduction and spreading of Covid-19 in our country, while yesterday, the Council of Ministers approved an updated plan to confront the new coronavirus. To date, no cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in Cuba. Nevertheless, the Council of Ministers, in an extraordinary session approved an updated version of the Plan for the Prevention and Control of the new coronavirus.

Ministry of Tourism annual review: Presenting the real Cuba

Cuba’s goal is to reach 4.5 million visitors this year, a figure that can be achieved with no problem if directives and work projections, discussed February 28 during the leisure industry’s annual review, are implemented. The annual review was also attended by Prime Minister Manuel Marrero; Mercedes López Acea, member of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee’s Political Bureau and Secretariat; and Tourism Minister Juan Carlos García Granda, among other authorities.

Cuba uses wave energy to support recovery of coastal ecosystem

A team of specialists from Cuba and Mexico has been able to show how a wave amplifier system can enhance a lagoon’s water exchange with the open sea, restore indicators of environmental health, and recover such coastal bodies of water in a short time, without exorbitant costs. Scientists involved believe that the Coastal Lagoons Water Renewal system, known as REALCO, installed for the first time in northern Ciego de Ávila, could benefit other aquatic ecosystems in Cuba and the Caribbean.

Habano Festival raises more than four million euros for Cuban public health

The 22nd Habano Festival’s long-awaited auction, closing the event February 28, raised a record 4.27 million euros for Cuba’s national public health system, in a beautiful gesture of friendship and solidarity with the Cuban people. Dalia Padilla and María Eugenia Álvarez, from Christie’s London auction house, one of the world’s most famous of its kind, hosted the sale of six original humidors during the event’s evening Gala, held at the Pabexpo Exhibition Center, representing a tribute to the world’s most renowned Cuban cigar brands.

No scientific evidence to support allegations of sonic attacks

Extensive scientific evidence regarding alleged “sonic attacks” on U.S. diplomats in Havana refutes theories put forward by the government of this country to explain the incidents, used to fabricate false accusations against Cuba. During a scientific event in Havana, organized by the Cuban Academy of Sciences and the country’s Neurosciences Center (CNEURO) – entitled, “Does the Havana Syndrome exist? – experts in attendance confirmed that the initial explanations were not founded on any scientific evidence.

Western Union suspends family remittances to Cuba, except from the U.S.

The Donald Trump administration has added further pressure to its cruel, unjust sanctions on Cuba: the Western Union family remittance company, February 26, suspended financial transfers to Cuba, except for those issued from the United States.Prensa Latina stressed statements previously made by the U.S. company, in which it was reported that due to the U.S. blockade´s unjust sanctions, this company could lose its ability to process remittances to Cuba from other countries around the globe.

A year has gone by, and if it were necessary to define it in a single word there is none more accurate than “transcendental.” Twelve months of unceasing work since more than eight million Cubans supported what has been, since February 24, the supreme law of Cuban society, based on the dream José Martí bequeathed to us of a Republic of exceptional humanism. The approval of a more advanced constitutional text was not only proof of the continuity that has marked the course of our revolutionary process, but at the same time, the starting point for another stage of intense, challenging work.
