The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

The impact of heavy rains on Cuban agriculture
Aware that they are in a race against time, campesinos in Pinar del Río, like all those in the western and central regions of the island, are working to address the impacts of the recent heavy rains in the province, which were continuous over almost three weeks. Preliminary evaluations indicate that 5,472 hectares of various crops were lost across the Vueltabajo region and around 9,000 hectares suffered damages.

Council of Ministers reviews Cuban economy
On May 29, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, chaired a Council of Ministers meeting during which the performance of the national economy through April, and guidelines for the 2019 Economic Plan and State Budget were reviewed. The agenda also included issues linked to administrative corruption and the economic potential of the Union of Military Industries.

Díaz-Canel interacts with authorities in provinces affected by heavy rain
Cuban Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez interacted via a May 29 video-conference with authorities in central provinces, which have been severely affected by heavy rain associated with sub-tropical storm Alberto.
Several ministers participated in the meeting and presented preliminary information on damages, which will be clarified when flood waters subside.

Díaz-Canel tours sites of social and economic importance in Havana
Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, toured sites of social and economic importance in Havana, yesterday May 16, as part of a two day visit the Council of Ministers is conducting in the capital to assess progress on resolving a number of pressing issues. He was accompanied by Mercedes López Acea, Political Bureau member and first secretary of the Party’s Havana Provincial Committee, and Reynaldo García Zapata president of the Provincial Assembly of People’s Power.

Statement by the Revolutionary Government: Cuba condemns fresh attacks by Israel against the Palestinian people
The Revolutionary Government of the Republic of Cuba vehemently condemns the criminal attack on the defenseless Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip, by the Israeli Army which has killed at least 52 people and left over 2,400 injured.

Since when has Cuba supported the Palestinian cause?
Cuba was one of the 13 countries that opposed the division of the Palestinian territory in the recently created United Nations Organization, back in 1947. “I should like to explain very briefly why the Cuban delegation feels bound to vote against the plan for the partition of Palestine recommended by the Ad Hoc Committee,” stated Dr. Ernesto Dihigo, in November that year, at the second session of the UN General Assembly.

Cuba: Committed to human rights
Cuba features among the 50 countries that have ratified the most international human rights instruments, according to lawyer Desiree Llaguno, speaking to Prensa Latina. She explained that the island has signed 44 of the 61 human rights conventions, making it one of the leaders in this field.

Cuba and the EU working to strengthen bilateral relations
Taking to her Twitter account Cuba’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ana Teresita González Fraga, noted that the meeting will be chaired by EU High Representative Federica Mogherini and Rodríguez Parrilla. According to González Fraga, this First encounter, “will provide an opportunity to advance relations between Cuba and the regional bloc,” following on from their Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement signed in 2017.
