The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

One year later, we are still alive and intent on winning
“Be strong, Cuba, we will live and we will win.” These were the words of President of the Republic Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, on March 20, 2020. Only nine days had passed since the diagnosis in Cuba of the first cases of COVID-19, but, knowing the strengths of our people, the constancy and resistance that are traditions on this island, there was no doubt about our ability to face the immense challenge that the pandemic would bring.

They should know this. The manuals prescribing devious “soft” coups are not recommended in Cuba; the people quickly intuit false gestures and detest traitors. The Trump administration took aggression to such an extreme in 2019 that President Miguel Díaz-Canel, when bidding farewell to the year, said: “They threw us to our death, and we are alive.”

Floral tributes from Raúl and Díaz-Canel honor crew members killed in aerial accident
Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, first secretary of the Party Central Committee, and President of the Republic Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez sent floral wreaths to Havana’s Colon Cemetery yesterday to honor the five crew members who died in an accident on the morning of January 29. The helicopter in which they were traveling from the province of Holguin to Guantanamo crashed into a hillside.

Cuban President congratulates General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam
The President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, yesterday February1, tweeted congratulations to Nguyen Phu Trong, who was re-elected as General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV). Phu Trong, who will assume his third consecutive term, won resounding support given to his capable management of state affairs, including the successful battle waged against the COVID-19 pandemic, according to information released by the national radio station Voice of Vietnam.

Cuban president is grateful for solidarity against US blockade
Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Wednesday expressed gratitude for the international support against the US blockade, and shared a photo of US actor Tyrese Gibson, who favors an end to that hostile policy. ‘Whoever knows and shares with our noble and industrious people, understands that the blockade must cease. Cuba is grateful for the solidarity,’ the president wrote on his Twitter account.

President Diaz-Canel assesses situation in central Cuba
Cuba President Miguel Diaz-Canel is holding a working meeting in central Villa Clara on Monday to assess the region’s recovery from the fresh Covid-19 outbreak.
