The first secretary of the Central Committee of the PCC and president of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, visits the coastal town of Cocodrilo, in the south of the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud, on Monday morning. On Twitter, the president reported that “Today we will be on the Isle of Youth, another of the territories affected by #HurricaneIan. The recovery there is progressing rapidly. Much of its electrical service and communications are restored. We have to work hard to rebuild the houses.”

Cuba thanks Mexico for sending material for the recovery of the electrical system in the West

Cuban authorities thanked Mexico on Monday for sending 113 tons of resources for the recovery of the electrical system in western Cuba. The Minister of Energy and Mines, Liván Arronte Cruz, during the reception at the José Martí International Airport for the last of the 16 flights, with around 13 tons of post-type insulators, recognized the presence of 17 technicians and specialists in generation in Cuba and the strength of bilateral relations.

Two Venezuelan ships with humanitarian aid set sail for Cuba

Two Venezuelan ships, the Carmita and Karola Sky motorboats, set sail this Sunday from the port of La Guaira with the first shipments of humanitarian aid from that nation to support the recovery in Cuba after the passage of Hurricane Ian. The two ships transport 400,000 food modules, fifty electrical transformers, conducting cables, and more than 22,000 square meters of zinc sheets.The captain of the Carmita, Jorge Coello Valladares, told Granma that the trip to Cuba will last six and a half days.

They publish in The New York Times a call to President Biden: “Let Cuba rebuild itself”

Concerned leaders and activists in the United States have issued an urgent call in the Sunday edition of the New York Times, demanding that Biden temporarily lift sanctions and allow Cuba to purchase urgently needed supplies for reconstruction after Hurricane Ian. Biden needs to act right now to help the Cuban people. Hurricane Ian caused great devastation. The power grid was damaged and the electrical system collapsed. More than 50,000 homes have been completely destroyed or severely damaged.

Considerable damage reported in the tobacco sector of San Juan and Martínez

Conrado López González directs one of the main tobacco producing cooperatives in the municipality of San Juan y Martínez, in Pinar del Río. To talk with the producer, we went to Obeso’s choice, which, like a five-door tobacco house, was left on the ground by the passage of Hurricane Ian. Before, we passed through the rubble of one of the 38 controlled cure houses that the territory has. “The cyclone completely knocked down the tobacco house,” says López González as he points to the entire structure on the ground.
