The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

President of African Union Commission thanks Cuba
I would like to thank Cuba and its health professionals, because it was a great comfort when we heard in the United Nations that you were going to send doctors; this gave us hope, because we knew that we were going to overcome the situation, stated Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, president of the African Union (AU) Commission during a visit to the Pedro Kourí Institute of Tropical Medicine (IPK) on October 1. We are very pleased to be able to meet some of the health workers who were on the front line of battle, she said.

President Correa thanks Cuba for medical cooperation
This past September, during the inauguration of an ambulatory clinic at Guayaquil’s Abel G. Pontón Hospital, President Rafael Correa reported that during his administration medical services have been doubled, with doctor visits increasing from 16 to 36 million, thanks to the Citizens Revolution and Cuban cooperation.
According to Cubaminrex website, Cuba’s collaboration began in 2012 with 75 medial professionals in Ecuador, a figure which has now reached 816, as a result of 11 agreements, nine with the country’s Ministry of Public Health and two with its Social Security Institute.

Cuban Mission in Paraguay Surpasses 5,500 Surgeries
The Miracle Mission of the Cuban collaborators in Paraguay surpasses today about 5,520 eye surgeries performed in the course of this year. Their work in 2015 began on January 26 for being the staff on holiday and closed on September 1 with 5,521 surgeries, of which 1,605 were of cataract, totaling 25,655 operations in eight years.

President of Liberia thanks Cuba for its role in combating Ebola
Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf thanked Cuban doctors for their role in the struggle against Ebola, yesterday June 14, during a meeting with Salvador Valdés Mesa, a Council of State vice president, who is leading Cuba’s delegation to the African Union Summit. She emphasized that the Cuban brigade worked in the most remote areas, where little infrastructure exists, likewise recognizing the prestige of Cuba’s public health system, education and sports.
