The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

Interventional cardiology bets on development: First minimal access percutaneous aortic valve implanted in Cuba
This time there is no “open heart” surgery. The multidisciplinary team that enters the surgical unit of the Institute of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery (ICCC) around 10:30 am on October 31 knows the steps, has reviewed them with precision. In severe cases of degenerative aortic stenosis—or what is the same, the narrowing of the valve in the large blood vessel that originates from the heart (aorta) and does not allow the valve to open completely.

There should be no barriers to scientific cooperation between Cuba and the United States
The blockade of Cuba is anachronistic and must cease, said Dr. Matthew W. Martinez, a renowned U.S. cardiologist participating in the International Cardiology Congress, Cardiovilla 2019, which took place in Cayo Santa María, who added that no there should be no barriers to collaboration between Cuban scientists and those of the United States.

Awarding seven decades of commendable work
The honorary title of Hero of Labor of the Republic of Cuba was awarded to Dr. Alberto Fernando Hernández Cañero, founding director of the Institute of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery, this Thursday, November 3, who at the age of 96 is proud to have spent more than seven decades devoted to this specialty.
