The Untold Story of the Cuban Five: Forbidden Heroes

The case of Elian González, a six year-old boy forcefully retained by his unknown great-uncles against the will of his father and in clear defiance of US law and decency was widely reported by media around the world. Miami, the place of the kidnapping, became a kind of secessionist city in North America when the Mayor, the chief of police, the politicians, every newspaper and local radio and TV broadcasters, together with religious and business institutions, joined with some of the most notorious terrorist and violent groups in opposing the courts’ and government’s orders to free the boy.

The Yankee Bases And The Latin American Sovereignty

The Yankee Bases And The Latin American Sovereignty

History will not forgive those who have been so disloyal to their own peoples or those who resort to the exercise of sovereignty as a pretext to harmonize this with the presence of Yankee troops. What sovereignty they refer to? The one conquered by Bolivar, Sucre, San Martin, O’Higgins, Morelos, Juárez, Tiradentes and Martí? None of them would have accepted such a repugnant argument to justify the granting of military bases to the Armed Forces of the United States, an empire far more dominant, powerful and universal than the Crowns of the Iberian Peninsula.

Seven Daggers At The Heart Of The Americas

Seven Daggers At The Heart Of The Americas

…the leaders of UNASUR, MERCOSUR, the Rio Group and others cannot but analyze the very good question raised by Venezuela: What’s the meaning of the military and naval bases that the United States wants to set up around Venezuela and in the heart of South America?

Speech at the 3rd Regular Session of the Seventh Legislature of the National Assembly of People’s Power

Raúl Castro

These have been days of intensive work. In Holguin, on July 26, I explained that I would be brief because other more complex issues would be submitted to deeper analysis in different meetings to be held through the week. We spent the full day of July 29 at the 7th Plenary Meeting of the Party’s Central Committee, with its Politburo and Secretariat as well as members of the Council of State and Ministers specially invited, that is, the main Party, State and Government leaders and the key cadres of the mass organizations representing our society.

Key Note Address at the ceremony celebrating the 56th anniversary of the attack on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Barracks

Raúl Castro

We might well begin by asking a question, purely as a matter of personal curiosity. You all know that I come from these parts (Applause and exclamations), and so I have the right to wonder, to want to know, if it is possible, which fellow citizen of this province had the idea of having us standing with the sun right behind us (Laughter), it doesn’t bother me, but I’m sure that none of you can see me; if anything, a shadow: that’s me (Applause).

A Nobel Prize For Mrs. Clinton

Now the perpetrators of the coup are already moving around in the oligarchic spheres of Latin America, some of which, from high state positions, no longer blush when they speak of their sympathies for the coup and imperialism goes fishing in the choppy waters of the river that is Latin America. Exactly what the United States wanted with the peace initiative, while it accelerated negotiations to surround Bolivar’s homeland with military bases.

The 30th Sandinista Anniversary And The San Jos?Proposal

… the people of Honduras are the ones who will have the last word. Representatives of the social organizations and the new forces are not the instruments of anyone, inside or outside the country. They know the needs and suffering of the people, their awareness and their mettle have multiplied …

What Should Be Demanded From The United States

What they want to demand from the Honduran people in the name of peace is to deny all the principles for which all the nations of this hemisphere have fought. “Respect for the rights of others means peace”, said Juárez.

The Coup Dies Or Constitutions Die

The Coup Dies Or Constitutions Die

If President Zelaya is not returned to his position, a wave of coups threatens to sweep away many Latin American governments, or these will be at the mercy of the ultra right-wing military, educated in the security doctrine of the School of the Americas, an expert in torture, psychological warfare and terror. The authority of many civilian governments in Central and South America will become weakened.

Remarks at the Special Session of Leaders of SICA, ALBA and the Rio Group

Raúl Castro

We have been called together by an extremely grave and transcendental event for Latin America and the Caribbean. We are all aware of the ill-treatment and abuses to which the president and foreign minister of Honduras were subjected, along with the ambassadors of Nicaragua, Venezuela and Cuba. The right of the Honduran people to political free expression has been trampled on.
