Int’l Committee Calls for Global Tweets For Release of Cuban Five

Washington, Jan 4 (Prensa Latina) The International Committee for the Freedom of five Cubans imprisoned in the United States is inviting internet users worldwide to post messages on the Twitter social network to demand the release of these men.

The virtual date set for the concerted tweets is Saturday, January 5, using the tags:

# ObamaLiberalos5Ya!;

# ObamaFreetheFiveNow!;

# ObamaGivemeFive and

# ObamaGestoHumanitarioxlos5!

The action is planned as the first global initiative in 2013 in solidarity with Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González and René González.

Four of those fighters face severe sanctions since 1998 for monitoring violent groups established in Miami, from where they planned actions like those that have killed more than 3,400 people in Cuba over the last 53 years.

René was released from prison on October 7, 2011 after 13 years, and is now serving an additional punishment sentence of three years of supervised release in that same city.

The Committee also calls on the international community to communicate by phone, fax or email and postcards to the White House to pressure President Barack Obama to free the Cuban Five, as they are known globally, and allow them to return to their native land.
