<p>The Vice President was accompanied by Gladys Martínez, first secretary of the Party in the province, and Juan Domínguez Miranda, President of the Provincial Assembly of People’s Power.</p>
<p>A number of issues including food sovereignty, produce sent to the Capital, municipal food self-sufficiency, savings, the effectiveness of planning, as well as discipline and control in implementation of plans, were addressed in a meeting of the Provincial Administrative Council.</p>

<p>During a Provincial Administration Council meeting, examined were the status of supplies needed for the 2019-2020 winter planting season, local self-sufficiency efforts to produce 30 pounds per capita of food and vegetables, and the production of meat, cassava, boniato, and taro; as well as progress in meeting projections for milk, fresh produce shipments to the capital, and the production of corn for animal feed.</p>
<p>According to the Presidential website, Valdés Mesa, emphasized the importance of the contracting process as a strategic means to achieve greater discipline and control, with a view toward signing agreements with 100% of producers.He stressed the importance of rehabilitating liquid feed plants and advancing in the production of corn, cassava, and boniato for the population’s consumption and animal feed, with emphasis on improving yields.During a tour of areas under cultivation, the First Vice President asked about working conditions and the results of different productive formats, in the province that sends almost 80% of its productions to the capital.</p>

<p>During the extensive conversation, the Cuban leader discussed hostile U.S. policy toward Cuba, the full activation of the Helms-Burton Act and the latest measures taken by the Trump administration to further restrict visits to our country by U.S. citizens.</p>
<p>In this regard, Giorgos Loukaides reaffirmed the unwavering policy of AKEL in condemning the blockade, as well as the will of the party’s leadership to continue strengthening ties of friendship and solidarity with the island.</p>
<p>Machado Ventura also addressed the neoliberal offensive underway in Latin America and the Caribbean, and efforts to strengthen the Sao Paulo Forum.<br />
The two leaders agreed on their mutual desire to continue developing the historic relations of brotherhood and cooperation shared by their parties.<br />
Accompanying the distinguished guest was Vera Policarpo, member of the AKEL Central Committee and responsible for the political formation’s international relations.</p>
<p>Also participating, on the Cuban side, was Ángel Arzuaga Reyes, assistant director of the International Relations Department of Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee.</p>
