The national event took place in the south central city of Sancti Spiritus, but activities are being carried out in each institution and education center of the island to commemorate the date, with deliveries of commemorative medals, productive works and cultural events.

As part of the program, some social works and projects to benefit children, adolescents and young people will be opened, and more than 6,700 youth will be presented with their UJC membership cards.

Susely Morfa, first secretary of the youth organization, told the press in late March the role of Cuban youth in the productive areas to guarantee the progress of the Caribbean nation in several economic items.

Morfa also ratified the young people’s support for the Cuban Revolution and fidelity to the anti-imperialist and Latin American legacy of the historical leader of that process, Fidel Castro.

As part of the actions on occasion of the date, the UJC will also develop the ‘Hacemos Cuba’ campaign, to give more visibility to the identity of the Revolution and promote respect for the heroes.

Thousands of young people from Sancti Spíritus kicked off the festivities to mark April 4, the 56th anniversary of the Young Communist League (UJC) and 57th anniversary of the José Martí Pioneers Organization (OPJM), taking to the fields early this April 1, in the Las Nuevas UBPC (Basic Unit of Cooperative Production), in La Sierpe, and the Boris Luis Santa Coloma CPA (Agricultural Production Cooperative), in Jatibonico, to assist with the planting of new sugar cane fields, a strategic objective for the development of this territory.

Sancti Spíritus will host the national celebration to mark the anniversaries of the UJC and the OPJM this April 4. Isbel Reina Abreu, first secretary of the UJC Provincial Committee, explained that such a distinction “recognizes the work of young people from Sancti Spíritus in terms of the economic and social development of the province, where we are an important force in the construction of the society we want and of the national project that we have chosen.”

She added that the event will take place from seven in the morning this Wednesday, April 4, in the Plaza de la Revolución Mayor General Serafín Sánchez Valdivia, with the attendance of more than 5,000 young people, some of whom will be presented with their UJC membership cards.

As part of the festivities, the “Love of my Homeland” anti-imperialist camp-out will also be held, which will take place in the area of La Reforma, in Jatibonico, where Panchito Gómez Toro, son of Generalísimo Máximo Gómez and assistant to General Antonio Maceo was born; an icon of the younger generation of revolutionaries.

CONFIDENCE IN YOUNG PEOPLE
The grassroots organizations and young people we recognize today are a sign that young people can assume immense tasks, because they know they are the heirs of the best traditions of struggle of our people and continue the essential work of the Revolution, stated Ronal Hidalgo Rivera, Second Secretary of the UJC National Committee, during a presentation ceremony of the highest decorations awarded by the Council of State, at the proposal of the UJC National Bureau.

José Ramón Machado Ventura, Second Secretary of the Party Central Committee and a vice president of the Councils of State and of Ministers, presented the Julio Antonio Mella Order to Major José Enrique Martínez Sánchez and Captain Yeniel Cabrera Duardo, officers of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) and the Ministry of the Interior, respectively, as reported by Juventud Rebelde.

Ten collectives also received the UJC Honor Flag, a select group of young people were recognized with the Abel Santamaría Cuadrado and José Antonio Echeverría medals, while 21 youth leaders, who during the past year stood out for their efforts, were also recognized. Four workers with more than 35 years in the UJC were also presented with awards.

The children and young people of the province of Camagüey are currently making final arrangements for a national celebration of the 55th anniversary of the José Martí Pioneer Organization (OPJM) and the 54th anniversary of the Young Communist (UJC).

The children and young people of the province of Camagüey are currently making final arrangements for a national celebration of the 55th anniversary of the José Martí Pioneer Organization (OPJM) and the 54th anniversary of the Young Communist (UJC).

From their respective pioneer, student and workplace groups, Cuban youth decided that the event would see a mix of history, productive work, sports, culture, healthy recreation and a deserved tribute to outstanding members.

Beginning April 1, a program of activities will commence including campouts at historic sites, such as the Potreros de Jimaguayú, where in 1873 Major General Ignacio Agramonte died in combat, and La Yaya, the setting in 1897 of the approval of the fourth and last of the Mambi constitutions.

The following day, in schools, dairies, factories, workshops, cooperatives, hospitals, local communities, and the Tínima organopónico (urban farm), in the provincial capital, young people will undertake voluntary work to support the local economy.

Yoandris Ruiz Villalón, first secretary of the provincial committee of the UJC, noted that on Sunday, April 3, children’s activities will take place in parks and squares across the province, such as the Casino Campestre park, the Camilo Cienfuegos Amusement Park and the Lago de los SueñosRecreational Center.

In addition to the usual offers for both the young and old, in this latter venue, salsa competitions, sporting events and a kite festival will all take place, before a concert in the evening hours to celebrate the upcoming anniversaries.

The youth leader added that the main national event will take place at four in the afternoon on April 4, at the Casino Campestre park, with activities in the morning where children and adolescents will demonstrate some of the skills developed as members of interest circles and the pioneer explorers’ movement.

The program also includes activities with children at the Eduardo Agramonte Piña Pediatric Hospital, visits to children’s homes, and performances in local communities by socio-cultural projects of the University of Camagüey and the Hermanos Saíz Association.

Tributes will also be paid to founders of the Association of Young Rebels (precursor to the UJC), former youth and pioneer leaders, relatives of international collaborators and outstanding health professionals.
