Mitrans directors assure that the International Transport and Logistics Fair will be the opportunity to achieve certain goals with a view to better service to the people and the successful performance of the Cuban economy.

At the Pabexpo fairgrounds, the forum receives businessmen from 12 countries, representatives of non-state forms of national management and Cubans residing abroad to promote business opportunities, cooperation projects and investments.

The fair will favor the consolidation of existing projects or those under negotiation in a sector hard hit by the US blockade, in order to provide better transportation to the population.

To this end, production, service and marketing companies from Mexico, Venezuela, Belgium, China, Colombia, Ecuador, Spain, the United States, the Netherlands and Italy, and about 52 exhibitors from Cuba will be present with their offers.

Centered on climate change, transport and maritime connectivity, the First Cooperation Conference of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS-AEC) kicks off today, March 8, in Havana. According to Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Rogelio Sierra, these three issues will be discussed during this first edition of the encounter, being held in the capital’s Tryp Habana Libre Hotel.

Speaking during a press conference, the Cuban official noted that other important issues for the region, such as tourism and trade, will also be addressed during the event.

The maritime connectivity work program entitled “Uniting the Caribbean by Air and Sea” for example, features documents such as maritime route maps of the area, currently in its fifth stage of development; a port and maritime strategy, and short distance maritime transport, coordinated by a Mexican entity.

According to Sierra, all activities taking place this week in Cuba represent an opportunity to promote regional cooperation and consensus.
The Cuban official also reported that a series of projects featured within the association’s Action Plan, established in its 7th Summit held in Havana last year, will be presented during this First ACS-AEC Cooperation Conference.

The event will be attended by representatives of associated member states, observer nations, other relevant countries, and United Nations programs and funds, in order to strengthen relations with the Caribbean community.

This First ACS-AEC Cooperation Conference was jointly convened by the organization’s Secretary General and Cuba, in its role as president pro tempore of the bloc’s Ministerial Council, and seeks to boost cooperation among members of the Community.

The first 100, 60 volt LT 1060 electric motorcycles with a 1,000 Watt three phase motor and produced by the city’s Ángel Villarreal Bravo Industrial Enterprise, recently went on sale.

The first 100, 60 volt LT 1060 electric motorcycles with a 1,000 Watt three phase motor and produced by the city’s Ángel Villarreal Bravo Industrial Enterprise, recently went on sale.

The new model, able to reach speeds of up to 50 km per hour, is an improved version of that previously produced by the factory. The motorcycle is also equipped with a remote control security system, digital dashboard, and brake pads, among other characteristics, according to Elier Pérez Pérez, deputy director of the entity.

The LT 1060, 5,000 units of which are set to be produced this year, with the majority of components sourced from the People’s Republic of China, retail for 1,261 CUC.

The director also highlighted that studies into the production cycle are currently being carried out with other Cuban enterprises, in order to reduce production costs. He went on to mention the possibilities of manufacturing the bike’s metal frame in the country, as well as chargers, electrical boxes, other parts and accessories.

The plant also produces wheelchairs, an item highly sought-after by the Ministry of Public Health (Minsap) for hospitals and bed-ridden patients, manufacturing close to 1,500 last year; a figure which should rise considerably this 2017, according to David Rodríguez head of Ángel Villareal’s sales department.

The facility will also begin production of other models of less powerful electric and mechanical motorcycles, as well as more wheel chairs; of which the enterprise has manufactured over 79,000 units for Minsap and the Cuban Association of Disabled People (Aclifim), since 2007 when production began, noted the director.

The airline Air France-KLM projects ending the year with a 15% increase in passenger transportation, consolidating its position as the principal carrier between Cuba and Europe, Africa and Asia, reported Antoine Cros, general manager for Cuba and the Dominican Republic.

During 2014, he told the press, “More than 400,000 passengers were transported, a figure which confirms our participation in the increase seen in tourism to the island, and demonstrates the positive state of relations between the company and Cuban authorities in the leisure industry and the aeronautical sector.”

“The Cuba destination is interesting, not only because of the attractions based on its Caribbean location, but also because of its people, culture and history, which are well known among European, Asian and African tourists,” the director stated, acknowledging that current demand cannot yet be met, despite the gradual expansion of flights.

At this time, the airline offers 15 weekly flights between Havana and Europe. Cros announced that, for summer 2016, Air France, which has been established in Cuba for 17 years, is considering the addition of three supplementary flights from Paris, while KLM, whose operations began here just four years ago, will add five weekly flights.
