Naryshkin leads a delegation of parliamentarians, experts and journalists to the international conference on the Soviet and Latin American cooperation during the World War II and in contemporaneity, scheduled for May 5 at the Havana’s Hotel Nacional.

Prior to his first visit to Cuba, the president of State Duma gave an interview to Prensa Latina in which he highlighted the successful Russian-Cuban collaboration and the traditional ties of sympathy between the two peoples.

Russia and Cuba established constructive, authentically partnership relations, based on a solid foundation, which corroborates the successful ties and mutual sympathy dating back many years ago, he stressed.

Despite the geography distance, there was never an obstacle “so we would follow the development of the life of the Cuban people and the fate of the nation.

Our support to preserve freedom and independence was present, while we admired the courage of its national heroes.

Naryshkin evoked the resolution unanimously adopted each year by the low chamber and at the request of the UN General Assembly in support of the Cuban government’s demand to lift the U.S. blockade on the island, maintained for more than 50 years.

According to Naryshkin, the parliaments from the two countries can develop cooperation at a higher level, so he expects good and impressive results of this visit, to be concluded on May 6.
