Civil Protection of Michoacán activated its surveillance and attention protocol this morning in the 113 municipalities of Michoacán, in which the telluric movement was felt.

Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla called on the inhabitants of the entity to remain calm and reported that his administration is already in communication with the municipalities of Coalcomán and Coahuayana, to deal with possible damage.

Soldiers from the Mexican Army and agents from the Civil Guard (State Police) joined the inspection tours.

Initially, the National Seismological had said that the magnitude had been 6.5, a figure that was later adjusted.

In a first report, at 2 in the morning, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador pointed out that the earthquake with an intensity of 6.9 was felt in Michoacán, Colima, Jalisco, Guerrero and Mexico City, where, until now, no reported damage, and “we will continue to monitor” the information that is collected.

“The earthquake again at around 1:20 in the morning, an aftershock reported to us at 6.5, Claudia’s information has already come out, that there is no damage in the city,” said the head of the federal Executive while receiving a call from the Chief of Government, Claudia Sheinbaum, who informed him that the magnitude of the tremor was adjusted to 6.9.

Minutes later, President López Obrador reported on his social networks that he contacted the Secretary of National Defense, General Luis Cresencio Sandoval, who reported no damage.

Meanwhile, the Head of Government indicated on her social networks that the earthquake was noticeable in the country’s capital, the emergency protocols were activated and, unfortunately, two people died.

The Secretary of Citizen Security of Mexico City, Omar García Harfuch, informed Sheinbaum that “the condors that fly over the City have no record of damage in the City, so far.”

The Head of Government added that failures in the electricity service were reported and that the Federal Electricity Commission was working on its review.

Except for these failures in the electric power service, the mayor’s offices did not report damages.

The mayor of Iztapalapa, Clara Brugada, reported that after the first reviews of hospital infrastructure, public transport services, elevated Metro and Trolleybus, as well as hydraulic infrastructure, they were not affected.

“We have reports of several neighborhoods without electricity, pending the prompt restoration of service by the Federal Electricity Commission,” she said.

The mayor of Coyoacán, Giovani Gutiérrez, also reported that there were no damages in the demarcation, “only some failures in the electricity supply.”

Margarita Saldaña, from Azcapotzalco, indicated that after the earthquake the security protocols were activated and the civil protection area of ​​the mayor’s office remains alert to attend to the reports that are generated.

She indicated that the City Hall’s C4 Control, Command, Communications and Computing Center “does not report any damage at the moment.”

The mayor of Tlalpan, Alfa González, indicated that after the activation of the protocols at the moment, everything is perceived without serious effects”, while the head of Tláhuac, Berenice Hernández, reported that she toured the mayor’s office and no news was reported. Two deaths were reported in Mexico City
With information from the Ministry of Citizen Security, it was reported that two people lost their lives.

The first event occurred in the Cuauhtémoc mayor’s office, a 57-year-old woman who was evacuating the building located on García Diego street in the Doctores neighborhood. The woman left after the sound of the seismic alert, when she went down the stairs she slipped, fell, hit her head and died as a result of the blow.

Landslides on highways
The movement, with its epicenter in Coalcomán, Michoacán, caused landslides on the Colima-Manzanillo highway, at the height of the La Salada area, municipality of Ixtlahuacán, as well as on the Villa de Álvarez-Minatitlán and Comala-La Becerrera highways, which were partially blocked.

In the city of Colima, the authorities reported damage to 11 hospitals and clinics, the state government headquarters, the C5i building, the Minor Basilica Cathedral, and the Sendera and Zentralia shopping malls.

Dozens of hospitals affected
In Michoacán, 20 hospitals and health centers, homes, roads and highways were affected in the municipalities of Coalcomán, Aquila and Coahuayana, reported the Civil Protection coordinator, Jorge Romero.

There was structural damage to medical units in Pátzcuaro, Zacapu, Apatzingán, Aguililla, and Coahuayana, as well as to hospitals in Uruapan, Zacapu, Apatzingán, Puruándiro, Cherán, Maruata, Ciudad Hidalgo, Sahuayo, Maravatío, Coalcomán, and Coahuayana.

At the head of Coalcomán, the temple of Santo Santiago Apóstol cracked and there were landslides in walls and ceilings; Dozens of homes in the center and the Colegio de Bachilleres were damaged. On the Pátzcuaro-Lázaro Cárdenas highway, a huge rock fell from a hill and partially blocked the asphalt layer.

The Ministry of Education ordered the suspension of classes in Coalcomán, Aquila, Chinicuila, Arteaga, Aguililla and Apatzingán, while the buildings are evaluated.

Damage to temples and houses
Two temples in Guadalajara suffered the fall of masonry. There was damage to schools in that city and to university centers in Tlajomulco and Puerto Vallarta. The hardest-hit municipalities were Tolimán and Zapotitlán de Vadillo, with damage to homes and schools. In Ciudad Guzmán some walls fell.

In Tepic, Nayarit, the highest part (spire) of the north tower of the cathedral fractured and pieces of stone material, quarry and cement fell into the street.
