Cuba and Switzerland sign agreement on the restructuring of bilateral debt

Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, a vice president of the Council of Ministers, received the Hon. Ms. Anne-Pascale Krauer Müller, ambassador of the Swiss Confederation in Cuba, this Wednesday, May 18.

The meeting’s main objective was the signing of a Debt Restructuring Agreement between the government of the Republic of Cuba and the government of the Swiss Confederation, as part of the process of implementation of the Multilateral Agreement signed by the Paris Club Ad-Hoc Group of creditor nations and Cuba.

Vice President Ricardo Cabrisas and Ambassador Krauer Müller also exchanged views on the positive state of relations between the two countries and noted that this agreement was an important step for the development of economic, commercial and financial ties between Cuba and Switzerland.

The Ambassador was accompanied by Patrick Duport, Swiss consul to Cuba. Also representing Cuba were Isaac Hernández, director of External Debt of the Central Bank of Cuba, Aleida González, vice president of the National Bank of Cuba, Elio Rodríguez, director of Europe and Canada and Manuel Pírez, director of International Law, both of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Cabrisas meets with Slovakian Prime Minister

Today, October 8, Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, a Council of Ministers vice president, received the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovakia, His Excellency Mr. Robert Fico, who is making an official visit to the country, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, the honorable Miroslav Lajcak; and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, the honorable Peter Kazimir, as well as other government representatives.

During the meeting, which took place at the Council of Ministers headquarters, both officials agreed on the good state of bilateral relations, especially in regards to the longstanding ties between the two nations in the spheres of economy and trade, and highlighted progress made in recent years, evidenced through agreements related to finance, education, culture and sports among others.
Cabrisas emphasized the important contribution Slovakia has made to the development of Cuba’s energy sector, and its recent expansion. For his part, the Slovakian Prime Minister expressed his interest in broadening bilateral exchanges and exploring new business and investment opportunities in Cuba.

At the end of the meeting a Memorandum of Understanding relating to cooperation in the field of energy was signed between the Electric Union of Cuba and Slovakian companies SES Tlmace and Eximbank

Cabrisas receives Deputy Prime Minister of Saint Lucia

On the afternoon of October 5, Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, a Council of Ministers vice president, received the honorable Philip J. Pierre, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure, Port Services and Transport of Saint Lucia, currently on a work visit to the country.

Both officials emphasized the good state of bilateral relations between the two islands; also noting new cooperation and bilateral trade opportunities in the spheres of construction, energy and transport. They also discussed the integration processes currently underway throughout the region, among other issues on the international agenda.

The distinguished visitor was accompanied by His ExcellencyDr. Charles Isaac, ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Saint Lucia in Cuba. Participating on the Cuban side was Manuel Aguilera de la Paz, director general of Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as other Ministry of Foreign Relations representatives.
