During the meeting, Fidel praised the Patriarch for his important contribution to the strengthening of friendship between the Russian and Cuban peoples and the dissemination of the values that unite them. The two leaders exchanged on topics of interest relating to poverty, the fight against discrimination, the preservation of peace and human survival.

They also noted the strong relations between Russia and Cuba, based on deep sentiments and ties of friendship.

The meeting took place within a relaxed and respectful atmosphere, with agreement on the various issues discussed.
