Venezuela and Colombia seek progressive reopening of the common border

The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, confirmed on Wednesday that his country and Colombia are working in technical commissions to guarantee what he called a progressive, productive and happy reopening of the common border.

The Colombian-Venezuelan border was closed to vehicular traffic since 2015, a policy maintained and reinforced by former Colombian President Iván Duque since 2018.

According to the Venezuelan head of state, “we are taking firm steps for a progressive, productive and happy opening of the 2,229 kilometers of border with Colombia.”

Maduro celebrated that for Venezuela, what he called “a gigantic market of 45 million inhabitants” will be opened in Colombia, to which Caracas, in full economic recovery, will be able to present its export offer that has grown, he said.

According to the Venezuelan president, Colombia “has high-quality products that Venezuela has always bought, distributed and consumed, and now, four years later, we are still producing, and we have a very good export offer for the people of Colombia.”

The Venezuelan president invited investors from Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Colombia to come and work the land: “We are going to make good agreements and produce food to export to Colombia, to the Middle East.”

In addition, the new Colombian ambassador to Venezuela, Armando Benedetti, confirmed that the petrochemical company Monómeros, which is owned by Venezuela and is located in Barranquilla, Colombia, will be managed by the board of directors appointed by President Nicolás Maduro, after more than three years controlled by a former opposition deputy.

According to the Bogotá ambassador, Nicolás Maduro is the president recognized by Colombian President Gustavo Petro, unlike his predecessor, Iván Duque, who identified another person.

Nicolás Maduro receives the Cuban Deputy Prime Minister, Alejandro Gil

Venezuelan President, Nicolás Maduro, held a meeting this Friday in Caracas with the Deputy Prime Minister of Cuba, Alejandro Gil, in which the deep relations of friendship and strategic cooperation between the two countries were reaffirmed.

This meeting took place in the context of the stay of the also Minister of Economy and Planning of Cuba during his visit to Caracas since last August 24, where he developed a broad work agenda, the Presidency reported on his web portal. .

During his visit to this capital, Gil also met with Vice President Delcy Rodríguez in order to review the progress of bilateral relations, exchanged with officials from the island’s embassy here about the Cuban reality and shared with collaborators at the Center Salvador Allende Comprehensive Diagnosis.

Vice President Rodríguez, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Caribbean, Raúl Li Causi, and the head of the Central Bank of Venezuela, Calixto Ortega, attended the meeting at the Miraflores Palace on the Venezuelan side.

The president of the Development and Export Bank and the Venezuelan Foreign Trade Corporation, Héctor Obregón, also participated, the source said.

The Comprehensive Cuba-Venezuela Cooperation Agreement emerged in October 2000 at the initiative of commanders Fidel Castro (1926-2016) and Hugo Chávez (1954-2013) under the principles of solidarity, brotherhood and complementarity.

In its two decades of implementation, it has been strengthened despite the challenges imposed by the US blockade against both States, increased in recent years with new coercive measures that violate the principles of international law and the peaceful coexistence of peoples.

Official data from the island revealed that up to October of last year, official cooperation projects amounted to 1,487, and more than 255,000 collaborators served on the land of Simón Bolívar.

On May 10, Maduro reported on a creative and profound refounding of the cooperation map between the two countries to expand mutual support 2022-2030.

ALBA-TCP rejects illegal U.S. sanctions against Venezuela

Speaking during the Sixth Extraordinary Meeting of the ALBA-TCP Political Council, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro Moros reaffirmed that together member states “will fight for the defense of the unity of the peoples of the Greater Homeland.”
He thanked the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) for calling the extraordinary meeting and urged participants to consolidate progress made in large-scale integration projects being undertaken by the multilateral organization, “in keeping with the principles we embrace; complimentarity, cooperation, and profound solidarity.”
He also noted the people can only achieve their ultimate goals through unity and in this regard, called on ALBA to establish mechanisms of dialogue to contribute to preserving the organization’s founding principles.
The Venezuelan leader also highlighted the importance of cultural and diplomatic cooperation directed toward building a strong and collective economic foundation.
Meanwhile, he also noted that the Organization of American States has failed and will continue to fail in its attempts to interfere in Venezuela’s internal affairs.
For his part, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, speaking during the event demanded that all those interfering in the country’s internal affairs take their “hands off Venezuela.”
He also congratulated the Bolivarian people for their victory last July 30, when eight million Venezuelans went to the polls to vote for the Constituent Assembly.
ALBA Secretary General David Choquehuanca, presented the ALBA-TCP final declaration which rejects illegal sanctions imposed by the United States on Venezuela.
