The need to act against the decline of natural resources and stop the impact of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere by promoting innovative practices in the country, was the main issue evaluated during the most recent meeting of the National Innovation Council, held in the Palace of the Revolution.

Led by President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and with the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Inés María Chapman, the exchange of academics, scientists, experts and managers this time went through the analysis of how much we could do to promote the concept of circular economy in the recycling industry, and in all our sectors, to achieve greater use of natural resources, in a nation like ours where the economy develops in very particular conditions.

The presentation of three papers on the current situation and perspective to advance the concept of circular economy taking into account innovation, marked the exchange of the meeting.

As a practice of developed nations, the essence of the circular economy is to achieve a better use of raw materials and the reuse of solid waste, not only from an environmental perspective, but also from an economic and technological reconversion perspective.

On how to achieve greater sustainability in the country, Professor Dennis Oliva Merencio from the Technological University of Havana spoke. Seeking greater strength in any innovation system and in particular when talking about the circular economy in the recycling industry cannot ignore the need to achieve integration between all sectors of society, which is why the doctor of Sciences, Lídice Vaillant, He defended the need for the integration of all sectors and their interrelation.

When defining the concept of circular economy, academic Dennis Oliva Merencio described it as comprehensive and core.

A broad exchange between experts, academics, producers and managers present, raised the issue of the circular economy and the need for its application as part of the permanent approach that should prevail in each project that is started.

President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez defined the circular economy as strategic, because of its transversal nature and what it implies in the creation of a culture for its implementation and influencing the transformation of people’s actions.

An important group of issues emerged from the meeting, which is why he insisted on the need to advance in the creation of a Cuban strategy on circular economy.

“We must ensure that we all think about the circular economy, both in the business system and in the municipalities,” said the president. He stated that this will allow us to chain processes to reach new products and productive transformations.

During the new meeting of the National Innovation Council, which has become a pillar in the exercise of government in the country, it was reported that the digital site of the Presidency has a space that can be accessed, where 102 materials are currently inserted with a wide documentation on meetings of this type held.

In the topic of analysis of the most recent meeting (the circular economy), although our country is far from practices that are implemented in developed nations, important areas are identified where comprehensive work can be done in order to multiply and make more efficient use more sustainable. of our natural resources, the reuse of solid waste generated by institutions and the population, and achieve greater productive chains.

Marked by the commitment to continue working together in multiple spaces, the meeting took place this Wednesday morning, where the Cuban Head of State thanked the senior United Nations official for the cooperation that both she and said organization have maintained with Cuba in all these years.

In this sense, the president highlighted the support received during the confrontation with the COVID-19 epidemic; more recently on the occasion of the passage of Hurricane Ian through Cuban territory, and in general the work that has been sustained in matters of advice and exchange of criteria on the demographic issue in Cuba. He also made reference to a group of programs for the care of children and adolescents in situations of vulnerability; the treatment of HIV/AIDS and other population issues that are addressed together.

After acknowledging the support provided to Cuba by the United Nations Population Fund in confronting the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US administration, President Díaz-Canel ratified the Cuban Government’s commitment to all the agreements of the Conference International Conference on Population and with the Sustainable Development Goals for 2030.

Consequently, he detailed to Dr. Natalia Kanem about the link that has been achieved in the Government’s strategic planning with these working principles, closely related to the National Economic and Social Development Plan of Cuba for 2030.

“We are at a particularly important moment to continue strengthening our mutual cooperation and collaboration,” said the Cuban president. In particular, Díaz-Canel highlighted the recent approval, in a broad democratic exercise, of a new Family Code, which is advanced and modern, and in which many guarantees and rights are defended that have to do with very sensitive issues for the Cuban population.

After explaining other aspects related to the new legal norm and highlighting the development of several projects that are being carried out in conjunction with the United Nations Population Fund, the Cuban president confirmed to the executive the will of our Government to continue deepening and working on those issues.

The solidarity of the United Nations is invariable

Thanks and recognition followed by Dr. Natalia Kanem, who conveyed to the President of the Republic a greeting from the Secretary General of the United Nations Organization, Antonio Guterres. The United Nations —she assured— is also very happy with this visit.

The senior executive of the UN, a pediatrician by profession, commented to the Cuban Head of State that shortly before this meeting she had given a keynote speech, as part of the work sessions of the Cuba-Health International Convention 2022. “I am coming right now from the Convention Palace and I was very happy to see so many young people from all over the world at that meeting”, he highlighted.

I must express to you, she said, the admiration I feel for this country. Next, he detailed to President Díaz-Canel about other activities carried out during his stay in Cuba, such as visits to a daycare center and the Belén Convent where he was able to verify —he meant— the treatment and attention given to people of the elderly, something very important, bearing in mind that it is an aging population.

Associated with this last topic, Dr. Natalia Kanem reflected on the dissimilar challenges that exist in population issues and in which it is urgent to face a series of inequalities. “Our organization is working on projects that involve Afro-descendants and indigenous people; We hope that Cuba can also join those efforts.”

During the cordial and relaxed dialogue, the distinguished visitor was accompanied by members of her team. Meanwhile, on the Cuban side, Rodrigo Malmierca Díaz, Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, and Anayansi Rodríguez Camejo, Vice Minister of Foreign Relations, also participated.

As in a battlefield, all the possible forces available to the country move, and they are assigned to the places hardest hit by the hurricane gusts. Each decision – whether it is a strategic plan, or a more tactical orientation – is permanently evaluated by the country’s leadership in check-ups such as the one that took place this Tuesday afternoon, from the Palace of the Revolution, and which was headed by the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.

The province of Pinar del Río, the most damaged by the meteor, had the largest number of analyzes in a meeting that also included Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz from the presidency; and with the Vice President of the Republic, Salvador Valdés Mesa. Both of them; members of the Political Bureau.

As reported via video-conference by the first secretary of the Communist Party in Pinar del Río, Yamilé Ramos Cordero, 5,244 people are currently evacuated from the territory. And in relation to the recovery of the electrical service, she explained that the figure already reaches 57.41%.

On this last front, when breaking down data, Yamilé Ramos Cordero said that the municipality of Mantua is at 100%; Sandino’s at 98; the Palaces, at 96.84. According to their part shared during the check, the lowest levels are located in San Juan and Martínez (with 24.82); in San Luis (with 27.15); and in Consolación del Sur (42.74).

The party leader explained that the forces have been reorganizing, to send most of them to the most needy places. She also emphasized the importance of the population joining the restorative tasks in each area, because that will make people feel closer to the solution of their problems.

Regarding the water service, Ramos Cordero said: “We maintain stability in the drivers of the city. The inlet pressure of water to the towns, to whom it corresponds according to the distribution cycle, is higher; and a decrease in the cycles is already being appreciated, although the areas that do not receive (the vital liquid) through networks continue to be a difficulty.

As she explained, the distribution of water in pipes is maintained –97 are being used–; and “control, organization, and rigor are maintained, but we still haven’t been able to reach the entire population with the necessary periodicity.”

Of food and its continuous distribution; of the decisions that are made to reach all families; of the food that continues to be made and sold in the areas that need it most; The first secretary of the Party in the western province spoke of the more than 300 collective kitchens; And she also gave an update on how the agricultural system is, where there is a battle to recover flowerbeds from urban agriculture, and the mobilizations of workers and companies and entities in the territory are maintained.

The tobacco campaign, the efforts being made to transfer this precious product to other factories on the island, and to recover all that is possible and that was damaged by the hurricane, were also topics that made up the dissertation of the party leader, who , regarding the housing fund, reported that today the province has 106,128 homes affected, and 13,213 total landslides.

Visiting each family is on the agenda of the authorities of the territory, affirmed Yamilé Ramos Cordero. And when adding details, she stated that 3,872 families have already bought construction materials, while another 3,800 have the form ready with which they can acquire what they need.

“We have construction materials in all the municipalities,” said the leader, who said that 203 bank loans have already been granted, and 280 subsidies to build homes in Pinar del Río.

Work continues, added Ramos Cordero, on educational, health, culture and sports facilities. And as for communications, she informed the country’s leadership: “We already have one hundred percent of the telephony

Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the Republic, inaugurated this afternoon the largest event organized by Cuban public health: the Cuba-Health International Convention 2022.

The event, which will be held from October 17 to 21 at the Havana Convention Center, will put the challenges of public health at the center of the debate to achieve the goal of universal health in a post-pandemic scenario and the response from the health sector to the devastating ones derived from the health crisis caused by covid-19.

Under the slogan “Universal Health, as part of the 2030 Health Agenda, in a post-Covid-19 context”, the scientific forum brings together more than 2,000 participants from 65 countries, including some twenty ministers, senior sector officials and more than 50 official delegations.

The extensive scientific program will facilitate debate on relevant topics such as the impact of climate change on health, the safety and quality of medical care, emerging and re-emerging diseases, the organization and operation of health systems to be more efficient and sustainable, antimicrobial resistance, new forms of international cooperation in health, research and innovation in health, as well as medical education, among other topics.

Manuel Marrero Cruz, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba and Prime Minister, José Angel Portal Miranda, Minister of Public Health, Carissa Faustina Etienne, director of the Pan American Health Organization, among other specialists in the area were present at the meeting. .

As part of this event, three associated fairs are held: The XV Health for All Trade Fair; the 3rd Scientific Publishing Fair and the 1st Medical Tourism and Wellness Fair, which includes the 2nd Foreign Investment Forum.

In Cuba Salud 2022, an exhibition on the National Health System will also be exhibited, which will represent the areas of medical care, hygiene and teaching, science and innovation and health promotion.

According to Dr. Ileana Morales Suárez, director of Science and Technological Innovation of the Ministry of Public Health, the organization of this Convention conceives the harmonic integration of its scientific, exhibition and commercial activities. For its realization, it had the help of prestigious national and international entities and the official venues are the Convention Center of Havana, the Pabexpo fairgrounds and the University of Medical Sciences of Havana, whose precursor center, the Institute of Basic Sciences and Preclinical Victoria de Girón celebrates its sixtieth anniversary today.

“With this edition, the Cuba Salud conventions are ten years old, a decade of scientific activities aimed at dialogue and reception around global health in a period marked by complex challenges in the international arena. The four editions have focused their attention on relevant issues such as the quality and effectiveness of health systems, health for all and health coverage, universal health for sustainable development, and on this occasion they will speak in particular about health, freedom as part of the twenty thirty health agenda in the post scenario covid.

The meeting provides for a broad scientific program that will promote a debate on the current and future challenges of public health and will also delve into the opportunities gap related to health in public policies. The exchanges will include experts from 64 countries, so it is hoped that a consensus will be reached on the need to consider the improvement of the population’s health as a fundamental determinant of social development.

The scientific program has 310 activities included in 31 events and 1,611 scientific papers were approved.

“Dad…”, the young man said, from his seat in the craft workshop, to the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and president of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez. When the president left, sounds of intense and crystalline emotion were heard behind him, of a boy happy for the meeting.

It did not happen anywhere on the island, but in one where love is the one who will always have the last word: the La Castellana Psychopedagogical Medical Center, located in the capital’s municipality of Arroyo Naranjo, and as far as the president came, on the edge of the eight o’clock this Friday morning.

Going to the end of a moving story, this reporter wants to attest that, on the page of the book for the visitor’s notes, the letters stamped by the dignitary occupied everything, from edge to edge: “In days gone by – Diaz wrote – Canel Bermúdez–, when we shared a meeting with representatives of our people in relation to the Family Code, the director of La Castellana, an emblematic center of love, dedicated to defending the rights and guarantees of people with disabilities, invited me .

“Today, happily, we are here; and what we appreciate is much more than we can understand in an explanation, however broad it may be. Here there is a work of love, of trust, of hope; here human rights are defended; here we work from emotions, feelings and commitment. In short, the humanist vocation of the Cuban Revolution is demonstrated.”

The head of state closed his note with “our congratulations for the achievements. Successes at work”. And he left a hug, “with love and immense respect and admiration for what they do.”

The director of the institution, Marileidys Perdomo Monteagudo, said at that moment of farewell: “Your words are very nice, president: they commit us to continue with the effort, dedication and commitment. And you know: he has a troop here, which he can count on for anything”.

The sunlight was not yet felt when Marileidys Perdomo explained to the reporters details that she later shared with the president: La Castellana, she narrated, was a private clinic founded in 1943. Its owners were Spaniards from the Castilla region, and from there the name comes to the institution.

In 1963, with the Revolution very young, the place was destined “for health services, specifically to serve the population with severe learning needs,” stated the director, who said she was referring to “cases that generally they have causes of genetic origin, children who are born with epilepsy, with congenital heart disease”, and it is necessary to address them, first, “from the clinical point of view”.

Regarding the above, the specialist referred to hearing evaluations, placement of prostheses, compensation for psychiatric disorders, care for epilepsies; “and when an optimal state of health is achieved”, and “as many medical specialties” have taken part, “then the psychopedagogical intervention is carried out”.

As Marileidys Perdomo Monteagudo emphasized to journalists, “our objective is no different from the rest of educational institutions, because the goal is to incorporate them (patients) into socio-labor life. What varies are the programs of the care curriculum, which are based on functional academic skills, which allow them to develop in fundamental spheres”.

These areas are, according to the director of La Castellana, those of “personal autonomy (which is the satisfaction of basic personal needs), the area of behavior and socialization, training for work, the development of communication, and self-service.

Exploring the sensitivity
When the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party arrived at La Castellana, workers and patients from the institution were waiting for him. Long live Díaz-Canel and the Revolution shattered the freshness of the morning.

“What do we say to the president?: That he has a troop here…”, expressed the director. And next to her Alejandro Freijo Villarreal, who has had her home in La Castellana for almost three decades, said that “the troops are present”, and that they want to go to Pinar del Río to help.

Alejandro remembered Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, and throughout the tour of the institution he did not separate for a moment from the president. In the end, Díaz-Canel Bermúdez told him: “It was a pleasure meeting you.”

While welcoming the president, Marileidys Perdomo Monteagudo defined that one “of the most beautiful, most human works that the Cuban Revolution has, is the attention to people with disabilities; because it allows them to grow as human beings, achieve the development of their potentialities, join work, the right to have a partner, while the family can also be incorporated into society”.

In La Castellana, of a total of 280 patients, 190 are semi-internal, and 90 are internal. “Those who come and go daily, do so on the green buses,” explained the director at the meeting where the first secretary of the Party in the capital, Luis Antonio Torres Iríbar, was also present; the governor of Havana, Reinaldo García Zapata; the Minister of Public Health, José Angel Portal Miranda, among other authorities.

Díaz-Canel was interested in various topics: in the ages of the patients – before which they explained to him that the work begins with an early care program, from the moment the child is born. “In other words,” reflected the dignitary, “there are those who have spent their lives here.”

The director herself returned to the idea that the purpose “of the center does not differ from that of educational institutions, which is to achieve inclusion and social participation.” And before such essence, the head of state affirmed: “That is defending human rights.”

The hours of stay in La Castellana, and the communication of the specialists with the families of the patients motivated other questions from the president, who continued looking for details while touring the artisan workshop, that universe where patients create, dream, and are fulfilled.

Díaz-Canel wanted to know about the raw materials with which artisans make flowers and other decorations. There a young man told him that he has a girlfriend, to which the president asked that if there is a wedding one day they invite him.

Like a teacher, the president asked, table by table, about what they were doing in the workshop. And on that tour he was learning that those who are protected by La Castellana do theater, dance, and sports (with Olympic results). Love, patience, patience, the president was enunciating while he watched the beneficiaries of the institution work.

Everything there seems to overlap in pursuit of the same goal: the young pedagogical assistant, trained in the institution and who can already help her family with her salary, especially her mother; or the young people from the Design, Architecture and Construction Cooperative (Diarco), who have remodeled and embellished spaces in La Castellana and who plan to continue there, fond of the joy of children and adolescents.

“We arrived here in April –Gretel Grisel Llibre, from the cooperative– told us; It really is an incredible experience: you get involved in the feelings of the boys, of the people who take care of them”.

Yeni Tuero Hodelín, who works at La Castellana in physical therapy and rehabilitation, shared more than one truth, from the emotion, with the reporters: to the patients of the institution, if you told them the day before that you felt bad, the next day They will be the first to ask you if you are alright. Society, he said, has to learn from them and get closer to these centers.

And Yeni is quite right, because in universes like La Castellana, not even the harshest of gales fades or loosens props like hope or shelter. That protection that the Revolution knows and feels so much about.

“We are convinced that your visit also marks a milestone in the already important relations between Cuba and Vietnam,” said the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and president of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, welcoming the Palace of the Revolution this Friday to General To Lam, Minister of Public Security of the Asian nation.

The head of state, who in his capacity as president of the National Defense Council received the minister dressed in an olive green uniform, confirmed to the visitor the significance of his stay in Cuba, not only in the exchange between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Ministry of the Interior, but also in the field of bilateral and partisan relations between our governments, parties and peoples.

For us – he said – Vietnam is a brother country; With Vietnam we have a close relationship of brotherhood and friendship. The historical ties that unite us are very strong, he added, which are based on the relationship between Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, Army General Raúl Castro Ruz and Ho Chi Minh, as well as later on the entire bond of continuity that we have had over the years with Vietnamese leaders.

For those of us who belong to my generation, which was born with the Revolution, all of this has profound significance, he commented. We are part of a generation that grew up hearing about the exploits of the Vietnamese people in the fight against Yankee imperialism and many other stories, evoked the Cuban president, who assured that over the years and from the different responsibilities he has held he has been able to feel “the support of Vietnam, the Vietnamese affection towards Cuba, as we Cubans also profess it towards you”.

In detail and in the middle of a relaxed conversation, typical of those that happen between friends, President Díaz-Canel explained to General To Lam details about the current situation in Cuba, where our process of socialist construction is fundamentally oriented towards building each time a fairer society, with greater social justice, he said.

He then spoke about the ferocious campaign to discredit the Revolution that imperialism is carrying out; the economic suffocation with which they have tried to bend our people by tightening the economic, commercial and financial blockade even more; and the way in which, during the most difficult moments of the confrontation with the pandemic caused by COVID-19, the Government of the United States did everything possible so that Cuba did not have access to vital resources.

Creative resistance, assured the Head of State, is what has allowed us to advance in the solution to these problems despite the difficulties. As a clear example of this, he shared with the visitor how, with our talent and efforts, with the participation of our health system, our scientists and the people, we were able to develop a successful strategy to combat the virus: three vaccines and two vaccine candidates, as well as build lung ventilators to supply those who were never allowed to reach Cuba.

After recounting many of these actions implemented in the country over the past three years, the Cuban president assured, once again, that “for us, cooperation and collaboration with Vietnam are very important.”

With the Vietnamese we have the broadest, most honest, most open dialogue, because there is mutual understanding of the problems we have to face, which are the same, he pointed out.

“For this reason, both in the political sphere, as well as in partisan relations, in which we have a high level of dialogue, we agree on our ideas and our positions in international events, we also systematically share a partisan exchange of mutual analysis of experiences,” the president specified.

The Minister of Public Security of that Asian country then spoke of gratitude for the support offered to Vietnam from Cuba, who also ratified the will to continue promoting bilateral ties between the two nations. “In the relationship between the two ministries, in particular, and the relationship between the two peoples, there is no limit that could be a difficulty for this relationship, which is developing and will be more fruitful in the future,” General To The m.

Also present during the friendly dialogue were the member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party and Minister of the Interior, Division General Lázaro Alberto Álvarez Casas; as well as the Vietnamese ambassador to Cuba, Le Thanh Tung, along with members of both delegations.
