Gerardo Peñalver Portal was received at the Nội Bài international airport by Le Cộng Tien, deputy director general for the Americas of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Cuban ambassador Orlando Hernández Guillén.

The delegation headed by Peñalver Portal will hold interviews with high-ranking Vietnamese officials, will share with members of the friendship association, with Cubans residing in the Indochinese country, and will visit centers of historical-cultural interest in the cities of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh.

The First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba makes his first tour of the Indochina region, after being appointed in December 2021. The tour, which also includes the countries of Cambodia and Laos, will take place from August 28 to September 7.

Vietnam is the first stop on this work trip, where, according to the Cuban diplomat, they will ratify the exemplary ties of brotherhood, comprehensive cooperation and political trust between both countries, forged by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and the legendary Vietnamese revolutionary Ho Chi Minh.

The extensive work program will allow exchanges, after two years of the covid-19 pandemic, with “three friendly countries” on the bilateral agenda and international issues of common interest, said the Cuban diplomat.

September 2, 1945, Ho Chi Minh read Vietnam’s Declaration of Independence in the capital city’s Ba Dinh Square, confirming the defeat of French colonialism.

On the 75th anniversary of this transcendental event, the first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) Central Committee, Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, and President of the Republic Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez sent their Vietnamese counterparts messages of congratulations.

In his note to Nguyen Phu Trong, secretary general of the Communist Party and President of Vietnam, Raúl expressed “cordial congratulations” in the name of the PCC and the Cuban people.

“The occasion is an opportune moment to reiterate our commitment to continue strengthening the unbreakable ties of friendship and cooperation that characterize the relations between our two countries,” he wrote, according to Prensa Latina.

President Díaz-Canel, for his part, conveyed to Phu Trong, and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, the “most sincere congratulations in the name of the Cuban people and government,” and reconfirmed “the firm intention to continue strengthening the relations of friendship and cooperation between our nations.”

The President likewise expressed the pride felt by all Cubans in the “historic ties and solidarity forged by our two peoples in the common struggle for freedom, independence, and development.”

Also in the name of the Cuban people and government, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero extended to his Vietnamese counterpart “the warmest congratulations,” and reiterated the will to continue promoting bilateral cooperation in all spheres, as well as the longstanding friendship shared by the two countries.

The sisterhood of our peoples is based on the Marxist principles of our parties and the legacies of our historic leaders Fidel Castro and Ho Chi Minh.

The best homage of the Vietnamese people to Ho Chi Minh is to have amply fulfilled his dream of building a nation ten times more beautiful, after the destruction unleashed on the country by the U.S. Army.

The best homage of the Vietnamese people to Ho Chi Minh is to have amply fulfilled his dream of building a nation ten times more beautiful, after the destruction unleashed on the country by the U.S. Army.

Today, 127 years since the Vietnamese leader’s birth, his nation is characterized by rapid economic growth and a great capacity for transformation, which put it in an advantageous position in the face of 21st century challenges.

Born May 19, 1890, in the commune of Kim Lien, Nam Dan district, in the central province of Nghe An, President Ho Chi Minh led the struggle for national independence, finally achieved in 1945.

At the time, Vietnam had been under French colonial rule for 30 years. From a young age, Minh became aware of the change he desired for the future of his homeland – independence and freedom.

Under his leadership, Vietnam faced the world’s most advanced warfare technology, in the hands of the United States, and emerged victorious. His strategy and political legacy are recognized throughout the world.

The path taken by the country, since the implementation of the Doi Moi (Renewal) Policy from 1986, has seen more than 20 million people lifted out of poverty in less than two decades, while primary school attendance has risen to almost 100%, and life expectancy up to 70 years.

According to authorities, the Vietnamese are proud to have fulfilled the desire of their greatest leader and guide, and now intend to build a country 50 or 100 times more beautiful and prosperous.

According to Prensa Latina reports, Vietnam’s most senior authorities recently paid tribute to the revolutionary leader Ho Chi Minh, known as the father of the nation’s independence. The ceremony was headed by the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Nguyen Phu Trong; Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc; National Assembly President Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan; and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Nguyen Thien Nhan.

On the anniversary of Minh’s birth, celebrated throughout the country with multiple activities, the government of the city that bears his name launched the 2017 tree planting campaign, a tradition initiated by Uncle Ho in 1960, which today offers an opportunity to recognize his contribution to promoting awareness regarding environmental protection.
