What government has led the poorest nation in a region for 13 years, dignified its indigenous roots, achieved international standing; built more than 5,000 educational centers, more than 1,000 health facilities; created financial assistance for the elderly, with a Dignity Bonus, and for children, the Juancito Pinto Bonus, contributing to a significant increase in school retention? And the country is now the fastest growing country in the region, raising the GDP to 43 billion, up from some 9 billion in 2005 when the government took office.

What government has in 13 years reduced illiteracy from 13% in 2006 to 2.4% in 2018; lowered unemployment rates from 9.2% to 4.1%, the lowest in the region, and moved moderate poverty from 60% to 34.6%, and extreme poverty from 38.2% to 15%, in this period of time? According to this government’s ambassador in Cuba, in an interview on Cuban television, for the first time the country has a young woman serving as the head of a diplomatic mission; a 29-year-old Senate President; and a 51% female Parliament, wearing traditional ponchos and clothing.

If all this was accomplished by giving the people power, participation, not with neoliberal formulas to enrich a few to the detriment of the majority, then that government becomes the preferred target of U.S. imperialism and the right wing oligarchy, since they would be run out of the business. Their ire I even greater if the nation’s President stands with the world’s poor in the UN Security Council, and looking the empire in the face says: “The United States government is not interested in democracy, if that were the case, it would not finance coups and support dictators; it would not threaten democratically elected governments, as it does in Venezuela. The U.S. is not interested in human rights or justice, if it were, the U.S. would sign international conventions for the protection of human rights. The U.S. shows contempt for the international order, it is not interested in multilateralism, if that were the case, it would not withdraw from the Paris Agreement or the Global Migration Pact. This contempt is motivated by a desire to appropriate our natural resources.” The U.S. government cannot forgive any government behaving this way.

This is the Bolivia of President Evo Morales, and these strengths became his “sins.” They are the real reason that led Carlos Mesa, Presidential candidate-coup plotter, and Luis Fernando Camacho – with a list of planned assassinations in hand, like Pablo Escobar, as he himself has stated to anyone opposing a forced change in the country – to organize a coup that in its essences is fascist, dismissing human beings in pursuit of their interests.

LIES EXPOSED

Evo and the growing Plurinational State bothered them so much, that in their desperation, they challenged the elections indicating majority support to continue Movement to Socialism project. But the coup plotters were drowned in their own lies. The NewsFront agency cites a report from the Center for Economic and Political Research in the United States, which noted the absence of irregularities in the elections held on October 20, refuting the OAS position.

The news agency indicates that statements from the organization – which has yet to present any evidence to support its position, has had a significant impact on media coverage and, therefore, on public opinion, additionally noting that the Supreme Electoral Tribunal of Bolivia has two count systems, one provides the legal result, and the other a quick count, a system implemented following suggestions of the OAS for electoral transparency.

At no point in the OAS report, the research center states, are the “irregularities” mentioned specifically described, insisting, “Neither the OAS mission or any other party has shown that there were widespread or systematic irregularities in the elections.” The research center itself questioned the OAS independence from the U.S. – which provides 60% of its budget – and challenges its silence on comments by President Trump and Senator Marco Rubio, asserting electoral fraud in Bolivia,

THE TRUTH WILL ALWAYS BE WITH THE PEOPLES

Several carefully planned steps, leading to the coup, were taken, beginning well before October 20. The cries of fraud were raised; the main state media closed and their journalists threatened; the OAS audit was rejected, as well as the option of electing new electoral authorities, proposed by Morales himself. Then the Bolivian Armed Forces and police turned their backs on the people and the democratic process in the country.

It is symptomatic, as revealed by the report from the U.S. Center for Economic and Political Research, that Bolivia’s Police Chief, Vladimir Calderón, and the Commander of the Armed Forces, Williams Kalimán, were, until December of 2018, police and military attaches, respectively, of the U.S. and they were the ones to step forward and call for the resignation of their President. Evo insisted that the armed forces not provoke violence, not confront the people, and now, following the coup plotters’ orders, they have come out to attack.

The website https://telegra.ph reports that Ivanka Trump could have delivered money for the coup to Jujuy, which Gerardo Morales could get to Camacho on his trip to Santa Cruz. The same source tells us that in the first days of September, on the pretext of Ivanka Trump’s visit, a huge military-economic CIA team arrived, camouflaged as firefighters from the Jujuy Ministry of Environment, who were sent as replacements to the “sister nation” of Bolivia. At that time Jujuy sent “help” to fight forest fires in the Bolivian Amazon.

Those who tell the truth and defend it always find the answers. Nicolás Maduro, on the day after the coup – in the Caracas of Chávez, of Bolívar, of a united America – in an international meeting in support of Bolivia and its President, unmasked Luis Fernando Camacho. “The father of this fascist was the owner of the gas company that Evo nationalized to distribute the wealth amongst his people,” he said.

If anyone doubts the participation of the United States government and the Organization, of America States (OAS) in the coup in Bolivia, take a look at Trump’s Twitter account and read this comment on the subject, “These events send a strong signal to the illegitimate regimes in Venezuela and Nicaragua…”

The president of Bolivia, Evo Morales, announced on Sunday his resignation given increasing violence by opposition groups challenging the results of elections held October 20.

“I decided to resign from office so that Carlos Mesa and Luis Camacho would cease abusing and harming thousands of brothers … I have the obligation to seek peace and Bolivians fighting amongst ourselves hurts a great deal, for this reason I am submitting my letter of resignation to the Plurinational Assembly of Bolivia,” Morales stated. After serious waves of violent against members and leaders of the Movement to Socialism (MAS), intimidation of journalists, burning of residences, and betrayals by political allies and members of the National Police, the country is facing a political crisis. The nation’s armed forces (FF.AA.) issued a statement indicating that in order to restore stability, a change in the Presidency was necessary, “We suggest that the President resign from office allowing the pacification and maintenance of stability in Bolivia,” stated William Kaiman, commander in chief of the Armed Forces.

“We are resigning so that our humble brothers are no longer beaten, poor families humiliated, we do not want confrontations. We have decided to relinquish our victory to allow for elections, all for Bolivia, all for the homeland,” Morales said.

“This is not a betrayal of social movements; the struggle continues; we are the people. We have liberated Bolivia, we are leaving a liberated homeland, developing, with generations that very much have a future,” Morales concluded.

The 701 members of the Cuban medical brigade in Bolivia are safe, with all necessary provisions, and are being kept informed of events in permanent communication with the mission’s leadership, stated Yoandra Muro, head of the brigade in that nation, speaking on Cuban television. On November 9, Cuba’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a declaration stating, “Disregarding electoral institutions and the people’s mandate expressed at the polls, sectors of the Bolivian opposition, with the support and leadership of the United States and regional oligarchies, have launched a coup with the aim of denying the Bolivian people the electoral result. The opposition coup strategy has led to severe violence across the country, which has cost lives, hundreds of wounded, and expressions of racism toward original peoples.”

The irreversible victory of Evo Morales in Bolivia’s recent elections, (with 46.64% of the vote vs 36.83% for Carlos Mesa), has shed light several aspects of the role of the OAS and Washington throughout their campaign to destabilize popular or left-wing governments, and return control to those who raise the banners of neoliberalism and submission to the United States.

The OAS, as expected, was aligned with the losers and opted to question the voting system and electoral law which states verbatim, “The candidate who surpasses the closest opponent by ten percentage points is declared the winner.”

President Evo Morales has described OAS action as an attempted coup against the Bolivian people, while the U.S. government, in addition to guiding the OAS, took direct action from its embassy in La Paz.

The Organization of American States insisted that “there is sufficient reason to suggest a second round…” and called a meeting of its Permanent Council in Washington, where the Bolivian electoral process was questioned, the possibility of fraud raised, and a call made for a second round vote, among other issues, with the sole purpose of denying Evo’s victory.

U.S. ambassador Carlos Trujillo dared to say that the delay in the vote count was due to the fact that Morales’ party was not winning.

While Nicaragua’s representative, Ruth Tapia, warned, “The OAS has no authority to intervene in the internal affairs of sovereign countries.” Similarly, Mexican ambassador Luz Elena Baños stated, “The report presented by the OAS must await the full count of electoral records.”

For its part, the Jubileo Sur Américas network has published several articles on its website recently, exposing crude U.S. interference in Bolivia’s electoral process.

Reports indicate that ships loaded with weapons have been traveling from the United States, specifically Miami, to the Chilean port of Iquique. This cargo is then shipped in containers declared as miscellanea.

Bolivian citizen Juan Carlos Rivero has also been denounced as responsible for purchasing weapons in the United States and sending them to the National Military Coordinator in Bolivia. This person has direct ties with Manfred Reyes, an opposition politician based in Miami, who is also linked to the U.S. Embassy in La Paz.

Other articles published on the Jubileo Sur Américas website indicate that U.S. diplomatic headquarters have been continuously monitoring the delivery of weapons and ammunition through secret collaborators. They have met with central leaders of the Bolivian opposition to address financing and offer advice on planned violence.

With this backing in their favor, losing opposition candidate Carlos Mesa and his closest collaborators have called for destabilizing actions, while seeking to declare themselves winners and create a kind of parallel power in the department of Santa Cruz.

The right in Bolivia, based in the department of Santa Cruz, intends to proclaim its candidate, Carlos Mesa, as President, ignoring the results of Sunday’s elections that gave Evo Morales a clear victory – an obvious coup attempt backed by a few governments in the region and that of the United States.

Faced with this situation, Evo issued a call: “To my colleagues and the Bolivian people, to my sisters and brothers, to organize, prepare, and we will defend democracy,” PL reported.

The President stressed that he is confidently waiting for the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) to issue its final report.

Meanwhile, the opposition called a civic strike in Santa Cruz, and stated that they will ignore the constitutional government of Morales and install what they called “a new constitutional President.”

For her part, the president of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal, María Eugenia Choque, insisted that she “has nothing to hide” and guaranteed the transparency of the vote, rejecting allegations of fraud by candidate Carlos Mesa and sectors that support him.

The transparency of the elections was highlighted by the Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, in his remarks at the preparatory ministerial meeting for the 18th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement: “We congratulate the people and government of Bolivia for the transparency of the electoral process they have conducted. We congratulate President Evo Morales for the preliminary results obtained, which confirm decisive popular support for his government, results that we expect to be confirmed.”He denounced the campaign of misinformation, destabilization, and violence underway, staged by sectors of the opposition and instigated by the United States, threatening the peace and security of citizens in Bolivia.
We must however wait until 100% are tallied to declare a victory for Evo and Bolivia.

Although all ballots, including those from isolated rural areas traditionally favorable to Evo, were yet to be counted, the opponent Carlos Mesa began to celebrate the need for a second round, which no one had confirmed. Mesa told the media that, if Evo won, he would not be recognized by opponents and a call would be made to not accept the popular verdict. The governments of Brazil, Argentina, the United States, and the OAS quickly agreed with Mesa and began to question the Electoral Court and the vote counting system. The uncertainty created as to whether there would be a second round was fueled by the fact that the Electoral Court has not provided new reports, due to the remoteness of several rural areas and the difficulty involved in transporting ballots to the counting and verification centers.

The First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee, Raúl Castro, and President Miguel Díaz-Canel received Bolivia’s President, Evo Morales, Sunday evening, during a stopover in Havana on his way to New York, where he will participate in the high level segment of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly, as reported on the Cuban Presidency’s twitter account.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla also arrived in New York on Saturday, leading the delegation that will participate in the UN General Assembly, according to cubaminrex.cu.The Cuban delegation includes Deputy Foreign Minister Anayansi Rodríguez Camejo; the ministry’s director general for the United States, Carlos Fernández de Cossío; Ana Silvia Rodríguez Abascal, alternate permanent representative and charge d’affaires to the United Nations; and other officials from the Foreign Ministry and the UN permanent mission.

The important General Assembly session comes in the wake of the recent expulsion of two Cuban diplomats by the U.S. government.

Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla tweeted Cuba’s firm rejection of the slanderous accusations and unjustified measure, clearly part of the Trump administration’s aggressive escalation toward Cuba.“I categorically reject the unjustified expulsion of two members of Cuba’s permanent mission to the UN and further restrictions on the movement of diplomats and families. The imputation that they committed acts incompatible with their diplomatic status is a vulgar slander.”

The expulsion, he stated is intended to provoke a diplomatic conflict that could heighten tensions and lead to the closure of embassies.

While other South American leaders stood idly by, and delayed operations to fight fires days after the flames began to spread across the Brazilian Amazon, the President of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, Evo Morales Ayma, personally led efforts to confront the tragedy in the area of Chiquitanía, located in the country’s southeast, between Gran Chaco and Amazonía.

In a Twitter message, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla emphasized the Bolivian leader’s actions in the face of an environmental disaster, writing, “We recognize the leadership of President Evo and the brothers in Bolivia, who are confronting fires in their area of the Amazon. They can count on our solidarity and support…”

The indigenous President has adopted significant measures to protect Mother Earth from the flames that have affected more than 700,000 hectares in Bolivia. First was the key step of creating an Environmental Emergency Cabinet in Roboré, in the department of Santa Cruz, charged with evaluating the situation, facilitating help, and attending to the most urgent needs of the population and nature impacted by the fires, according to the country’s Ministry of Communications.

Official Bolivian reports indicate that working in the area are 1,800 soldiers, 450 police, 21 ambulances and 42 water trucks with their crews, as well as a large number of doctors and volunteers, for a total of more than 4,000 persons. This coordinated response has contributed to preventing any loss of human life, to date.

Some 2,000 residents and firefighters have been provided medical assistance, although no severe cases have been reported, according to statements by the country’s Health Minister, Gabriela Montaño.

Also deployed were veterinary personnel to aid domestic and wild animals, and refuge centers were created for the area’s fauna. A report on RT indicated that seven aircraft are fighting the fires, among these a Boeing 747 Super Tanker leased by the Morales government.

Of course, criticism from the opposition was not long in coming, but quickly lost steam given the preliminary results of measures taken by the President, who tweeted, “I thank the press for visiting Chiquitanía to verify the struggle underway against the fires. Together we confirmed a reduction in the number of hotspots over the last few days, from 8,000 to 162.”

Morales has provided a personal example of the attitude required to overcome a natural disaster: cooperating with the firefighting brigades; coordinating the Emergency Cabinet’s work; inspecting affected areas from the air; holding meetings with residents; and temporarily suspending his campaign as the Movement to Socialism (MAS) candidate for President in the upcoming October elections, given the difficult situation in Chiquitanía. He has additionally declared an “ecological pause” in affected areas, which includes a prohibition on land sales, and accepted international aid, which is still insufficient.

No less important is his call for a meeting, to address the fire emergency, of foreign ministers from the Amazon Treaty Cooperation Organization’s (OTCA) member countries, which includes Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela.

The Bolivian government, and its President in particular, have promoted the hashtag #UnidadEnLaAdversidad (UnityInAdversity), sharing news on the fires via social media. A good maxim for a sister people confronting a great challenge – a difficult task that requires the best from human beings, and especially unity to fight the flames and begin the recovery.

The Amazon’s importance for the world

- The Amazon rainforest covers 7.4 million square kilometers, 5% of the world’s continental land surface, including areas in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela.

- The Amazon River is the largest in the world, carrying an average of 230,000 cubic meters of water per second, 20% of the fresh water on the planet.

- Indigenous groups, with great cultural and linguistic riches, account for 17% of the population in the region. These native peoples have always used the rainforest’s resources in a sustainable manner thanks to their knowledge of its biodiversity and ecosystem.

- Amazonia is a region of great geopolitical importance both nationally and internationally, given the scarce, strategic resources it holds, its environmental importance, and cultural patrimony.
