China today demanded that the United States stop the harassment and not raise more barriers to bilateral ties, after stressing that their stable development benefits the common interests and those of the international community.

According to an official statement, Foreign Minister Wang Yi made these remarks during a telephone conversation with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

The foreign minister criticized Washington for clinging to ideological prejudices and trying to curb Chinese investment with its new controls on the export and trade of machinery and semiconductors for supercomputers and artificial intelligence from the Asian country.

He denounced that these are violations of free trade norms and urged to correct them because they harm both the interests and the legitimate rights of Beijing.

Wang also called on the White House to pay attention to the report of the recent Congress of the Communist Party (CPC) of China, as it contains the future aspirations of the country in multiple aspects and defines the path to follow to achieve them.

“If the United States really wants to understand China, please study the CCP’s 20th Congress report carefully. China’s domestic and foreign policies are open and transparent, its strategies are transparent,” he noted.

Blinken, for his part, indicated that the world expects more cooperation between the world’s two main powers and expressed Washington’s willingness to maintain communication on the future of relations, the official note said.

The sides also discussed the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and Wang called for calm, more diplomatic efforts and peaceful negotiations.

Wang Yi stressed that all parties to the conflict “must exercise restraint, make a calm decision and intensify diplomatic efforts to prevent the situation from further escalating or even getting out of control.”

The Chinese foreign secretary also pointed out that “putting Sino-US relations back on the path of stable development” is in the interests of both countries and the international community.

Last July, the two heads of diplomacy spoke in the context of the G20 Summit held in Bali, Indonesia, and thus gave continuity to other high-level contacts held by representatives of both countries.

During that meeting, they agreed to promote intergovernmental consultations and also collaborate in areas such as public health and confronting climate change.

But the exchanges are not prospering amid renewed friction over issues such as visits by US politicians to Taiwan, economic-commercial restrictions and charges against Chinese citizens accused of harassing compatriots on US soil.

The fight against corruption and the guarantee of food and energy security are points of the highest priority for the Communist Party (PCCh) of this Asian nation, confirmed representatives of various departments of the aforementioned political organization whose XX National Congress began to meet in plenary from this October 16.

Curbing corruption and bureaucracy has been at the center of the CCP’s attention, protecting it from misconduct and interference by powerful forces of power, said Xiao Pei, deputy head of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Central Committee. of the CCP.

“We have zero tolerance for it,” he said. That combat, he insisted, has not distinguished ranks or positions, since among those investigated include members of the Central Committee itself and of the Disciplinary Commission. “We reach the levels that are necessary,” he said.

In the last decade, he detailed, they aired 650,000 processes for corruption or inappropriate work behavior related to education and medical care, pensions, social security, law enforcement, among others linked to services or means of subsistence. of citizenship.

In that same period, he explained, more than 74,000 people were sanctioned for these charges, of which 48% had perpetrated their misdeeds before 2012 and only 11% after 2017. “Which shows that not to falter in this effort It has been effective,” he said.

Surveys cited by the also vice president of the National Supervisory Commission indicate that more than half of the Chinese population considers the efforts and results of the Party in its fight against corruption to be adequate. However, he clarified, it is an unfinished road; and in which “he will not make setbacks or rest”, he sentenced.

In the central report to the 20th Congress, the CCP pointed out that 10 years ago, in contrast to the successes of the Reform and Opening-up, there were four habits within it that it described as “unhealthy”: formalism, bureaucracy, hedonism, and proclivity to waste and waste. the lavishness. However, its secretary general Xi Jinping stressed that the group of measures taken from then to date reversed a scenario that he believed put the future of the country at risk.

Also on Monday, Cong Liang, director of the State Administration of Grains and Reserves, said that “China has ensured that the food supply is firmly in its own hands.” The national production of grains, he indicated, has always exceeded 650 million tons annually since 2015.

Last year, he added, said production climbed to 682.85 million tons. All this, he emphasized, proves the ability of the Asian nation to guarantee its food security; especially for its grain storage capacity that exceeds 700 million tons; and for the 6,000 companies here that are capable of responding to emergency situations in this regard.

Similarly, other CPC Central Committee representatives reiterated that the country is determined to have a secure and resilient energy system. An issue that, they stressed, is also a priority for the Party.

Beijing, they said, will continue to take the necessary steps to expand the role of domestic sources within its energy matrix, both fossil fuels and renewable sources, in addition to nuclear power.

Achieving the goal of carbon neutrality by mid-century is a key objective within the domestic sustainable development strategy. It is an issue of energy security, they commented, for this reason, they concluded, China is clear in its aspiration to reduce the carbon footprint within its economic growth.

Both the fight against corruption and the path that China will adopt in the coming years in terms of the economy and energy are issues that will be examined in the plenary session of the 20th National Congress of its Communist Party, which should conclude on October 22.

The US government plans starting next month to extend restrictions on US exports to China of semiconductors used in artificial intelligence and chip-making tools, Reuters reports, citing sources familiar with the matter.

The US Department of Commerce intends to include new regulations, based on the notification letters sent at the beginning of the year to three companies in the North American country: KLA Corp, Lam Research and Applied Materials. Those letters prohibited the sale of equipment to manufacture microcircuits to Chinese companies that produce advanced semiconductors with processes smaller than 14 nanometers.

The new restrictions would also apply to Nvidia and AMD, companies that were also notified in August to stop any sales of their chips used in artificial intelligence to the Russian and Chinese markets. Furthermore, the regulations could even apply to companies trying to challenge the two firms’ dominance of such technology.

A Commerce Department spokesman said the US is “taking a comprehensive approach to implement additional actions to protect its national security and foreign policy interests” as well as prevent China from obtaining applicable US technology in modernization. military.

For its part, from the Chinese Embassy in Washington they criticized the “export control abuses” by the US government, and pointed out that these measures “violate the rules of international trade, harm global growth and harm companies from both countries. ”.

According to the technology expert at the American Center for Strategic and International Studies, Jim Lewis, the US strategy “is to suffocate China” and they have discovered that chips are the “choke point”, since in the Asian giant “They can’t make these things, they can’t make manufacturing equipment” for semiconductors.

The sources quoted by Reuters added that the US government is pressuring its allies to enact similar policies so that their companies cannot sell technology to China either.

More fuel to the fire: the US “would defend Taiwan”
This Sunday, US President Joe Biden stated that his country would defend Taiwan in the event of an alleged military conflict with China, in an interview with the CBS television channel. Beijing regards Taiwan as an inalienable part of its territory, and insists that any US negotiations with Taipei that bypass the Chinese central government violate the key principle of its one-China policy.

Although Washington does not diplomatically recognize Taiwan’s independence, it maintains a policy of strategic ambiguity towards the island, reserving the right to maintain special relations with Taipei, which, in its opinion, makes its own decisions.

Tensions around Taiwan were reignited in August due to the visit to Taipei by the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi.

Recently, the Committee on Foreign Relations of the United States Senate approved a bill that would expand military aid to Taiwan and thus revives tensions with China today. With this rule, Taipei would receive 4.5 billion dollars in weapons and equipment within four years.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian deplored the permanence of such policy although the international community has rejected it consecutively at the United Nations General Assembly in the last 29 years.

Zhao recalled that during its existence, the hostile siege has caused economic losses exceeding 144 billion dollars to the island.

Last week, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed support to the island in the protection of the social stability, rejected any interference in internal issues and demanded the United States to end the blockade, considering it the main cause of the shortages in medicines and energy there.

The diplomat highlighted the response by Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel to the actions that took place on July 11 and deplored any attempt to interfere in internal affairs in the Caribbean nation.

China thus joined several nations and organizations in the world that repudiate subversive actions, demonstrations and calls for an intervention in Cuba.

The Communist Party of China and the Communist Party of Vietnam, as well as the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s Workers Party and the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party sent messages of congratulations and solidarity to the Communist Party of Cuba, on the occasion of the opening of the 8th Congress of the organization.

“The Communist Party of Cuba constitutes the leading nucleus of the revolution and the construction of socialism. In recent years it has led the Cuban people to achieve important results in economic development, in improvement of living conditions and effectively confronting COVID-19. In this regard, we are very pleased,” reads the text from the Communist Party of China’s Central Committee.

The message adds, “We are convinced that, under the firm leadership of the Communist Party of Cuba, the Congress will provide orientation as an important guide and inject energy into the development of socialism with Cuban characteristics. We reaffirm our commitment to work with the Cuban party to further promote the traditional friendship shared by China and Cuba, strengthen political confidence, deepen strategic communication and constantly enrich mutually beneficial, productive cooperation, in order to jointly achieve new accomplishments in the construction of socialism in both countries.”

The missive from the highest leadership body of the Communist Party of Vietnam emphasized that the Congress represents the Cuban Revolution’s historical continuity, the eternal spirit of the Sierra Maestra, the Bay of Pigs and Comandante en jefe Fidel Castro.

“The special relationship between Vietnam and Cuba – in which the exchange between the two parties provides the political basis for improving bilateral relations and plays an important guiding role – has been constructed by the leaders of our revolutions, José Martí, Ho Chi Minh, Fidel Castro and several generations of Vietnamese and Cuban leaders. This special relationship continues to be cultivated and developed in all aspects, producing major achievements, demonstrating the firm, faithful revolutionary position of the parties, states and peoples of both countries, contributing to revolutionary causes and socialist works in each nation. The unforegttable words of Comandante en jefe Fidel Castro, “For Vietnam, we are ready to give even our own blood,” will forever serve as the noble symbol of this sacred relationship,” the message stated.

The Vietnamese text continues, “Despite innumerable difficulties and challenges, Cuba continues to relentlessly raise the victorious banner of revolutionary heroism, in the spirit of transparent internationalism, of indomitable struggle; with active participation in the struggles for national independence and social progress of the peoples of Latin America, the Caribbean, and the world.”

Echoing these sentiments, the Korean Workers’ Party expressed the certainty that this 8th Congress will make an important contribution to defending Cuba’s revolutionary conquests, guaranteeing the continuity and invariability of the socialist cause, achieving the country’s development, and promoting the people’s wellbeing.

“Relations between the parties and countries of Korea and Cuba were established in the common struggle against imperialism and for the successful advancement of the socialist cause; they were tested during complex, difficult international situations and today are being developed comprehensively in accordance with the needs of a new era,” the Workers’ Party’s greeting notes, reaffirming the traditional ties of friendship, unity and cooperation shared by the two organizations.

The Lao People’s Revolutionary Party also emphasized the importance of the Congress, which “will demonstrate the ongoing development of society and the strengthening of Cuban communists. We are confident that the resolutions adopted at the Congress will serve as guidelines and solid foundations for the welfare of the Cuban people,” the congratulatory message states.

Cuba’s Foreign Minister and Party Political Bureau member, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, on his official Twitter account, reaffirmed our country’s invariable, unequivocal position in support of the “One China” principle and condemned interference in the internal affairs of this sister country.

The principle establishes that the entire Chinese nation, including the island of Taiwan, is a single country with a legitimate government and capital in Beijing. Respect for this government is a basic requirement for maintaining diplomatic relations with China.

Beijing has repeatedly criticized the United States for its interactions with Taiwan and the sale of arms to the island’s separatist government. This conduct continues despite the fact that the One China principle was endorsed in joint communiqués signed by China and the United States in 1972, 1978 and 1982.

In 1971, with 170 votes in the General Assembly, the international community approved a resolution recognizing the People’s Republic of China as the only legitimate representative of the nation before the United Nations, with Taiwan as an inalienable part of its territory.

Prensa Latina points out that in order to advance towards the complete reunification of China’s national territory, Beijing defends the policy of One Country, Two Systems, implemented in the administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macao.

Cuba also condemned interference in China’s internal affairs with a statement from the Foreign Ministry, in September of 2019, rejecting attempts to violate the nation’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, in the wake of violent demonstrations and acts of vandalism in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, promoted from abroad and intended to affect the political, economic and social order of the nation, and generate insecurity.
