Russia and Cuba from next October 1 will once again be connected by direct air routes, which will reach the poles of Varadero and Cayo Coco, the tour operator Pegas Touristik reported on Wednesday.

The entity detailed through a statement released by the Russian Tour Operators Agency that the program of flights with tourist packages is organized in association with the airline Nordwind Airlines.

He also added that the destination of the Cuban resort of Varadero will be the first to be available to vacationers from the Eurasian nation, with a frequency of four per week, on the Moscow-Varadero route served by Boeing-777-300ER aircraft, with estimated travel time of 13 hours.

Likewise, the flight program to Cayo Coco is scheduled to start on October 2 with a frequency of three times a week.

For his part, the Minister of Tourism of the Cuban embassy in Moscow, Juan Carlos Escalona, explained that the authorities of the leisure industry of the Caribbean island await the resumption of the flight programs of other Russian airlines.

In this sense, he recalled that the Antillean Government guarantees the airlines of the Slavic country the inviolability of their aircraft.

“We really hope that other tour operators and airlines will follow the example of Pegas Touristik and Nordwind Airlines. Cuba is ready for the return of Russian tourists,” the official stressed.

Escalona added that before the end of the year, Havana will complete the necessary procedures for the acceptance and service of Russian Mir cards. “Cuban and Russian experts are in active contact on this issue,” he assured.

The diplomat reported that a delegation headed by the Cuban Minister of Tourism, Juan Carlos García, will arrive in Moscow in mid-September to participate in the International Exhibition Forum on Leisure Tourism 2022.

He added that the event will be the appropriate setting to present the # CubaÚnica campaign, which aims to create demand and offer travel agents general information that guarantees knowledge about the tourist destinations of the largest island of the Antilles.

In addition, update the entire sales network about news, attractions, new places of interest, services and activities for the client.

The Italian airline Neos is considering a new flight to the central Cuban province of Villa Clara. Mid October saw the arrival of the company’s first flight to the keys – the province’s main tourist destination – located off the region’s northern coastline, reports EFE.

Onboard this first flight were some 200 Milan-based tour operators and travel agents who arrived to the province’s Abel Santamaría International Airport, interested in the quality of services and variety of tourist options offered on the island’s north-eastern keys, renowned for their virtually pristine beaches.

According to AIN, the aim of the “exploratory” visit is to “strengthen the Italian market” to Villa Clara in Cuba’s so-called tourist “high season,” which coincides with the island’s winter period, explained Cubatur’s head of regional operations, Tamara Arteaga.

Italian airline Neos was founded in 2001 and currently offers direct flights from Milan to the cities of Havana, Holguín and Santiago de Cuba (to the east) and tourist resorts of Varadero (west) and Cayo Largo (south).

2,190,134 international holidaymakers visited Cuba in the fist half of 2015, the majority from Canada, the UK, Spain, Mexico, France and Italy.

CAYMAN ISLANDS AIRLINE TO LAUNCH SECOND FLIGHT TO CUBA

A second flight between Holguín and Georgetown, capital of the Cayman Islands, will feature on Cayman Airways’ flight schedule beginning November 28.

According to Prensa Latina direct return flights will run on Saturdays, last one hour and allow for international connections at the Owen Roberts Airport.

A statement from the company, founded in July 1968, notes that the initiative aims to respond to growing passenger demand between the two countries, as well as offering more travel options to Canadian and European tourists visiting the Cayman Islands.
The PL report also highlights that Holguín was chosen given its position as Cuba’s fourth most important city and its location, close to Santiago and Camagüey, two other popular tourist destinations.
Thus the Cuban city will become the 17th destination to feature on Cayman Airways’ flight chart.
